Overall efficiency versus Cal Poly and UCSB

Vs Cal Poly
(K=Kills, SA=Service Ace, BS=Block Solo, BA=Block Assist)

Points:

Manu-Olevao 15K 1SA 16 points
Greeley 11K 11 points
Magill 9K 1BS 4BA 12 points
Adolpho 6K 1BS 7 points
Higgins 2K 2SA 1BS 2BA 6 points
Taylor 3K 2BA 4 points
Passi 2K 2 points

Overall efficiency after factoring errors:
(KE=Kill Error, SE=Service Error, RE=Receive Error, BE=Block Error, BHE=Ball Handling Error)

Magill 1KE 1BE 10 points, 2digs, .471 hitting %
Greeley 3KE 2SE 6 points, 9 digs, .308 hitting %
Adolpho No errors 6 points, 5 digs, 1.000 hitting %
Manu-Olevao 6KE 3SE 2RE 5 points, 8 digs, .265 hitting %
Higgins 2SE 1BHE 3 points, 4 digs, 39 Assist .667 hitting %
Taylor 1KE 1SE 1 point, 4 digs, .167 hitting %
Passi 1KE 1 point, 1 dig, .200 hitting %

Libero/DS
Mendoza 14 digs, 1Set/A
Kahakai 8 digs, 2Set/A, 1SE
Ponce 3 digs, 1SE

Note: Adolpho served and played some back-row defense. Annie Mitchem 6-3 MB (committed to the Wahine per RichKern.com) currently plays all-rotation for IVC, leading in kills/set, hitting %, digs/set, Blocks/set. The last Wahine all-rotation MB was 4-time AA, and 1996 NPOY Angelica Ljungquist. Will coach Shoji let Mitchem play all 6-rotations?

Vs UCSB
(K=Kills, SA=Service Ace, BS=Block Solo, BA=Block Assist)

Points:

Taylor 22K 3SA 25.0 points
Magil 10K 2BS 2BA 13.0 points
Greeley 10K 1BA 10.5 points
Adolpho 8K 5BA 10.5 points
Long 7K 7.0 points
Higgins 2K 1SA 1BS 6BA 7.0 points
Passi 1K 1.0 points

Overall efficiency after factoring errors:
(KE=Kill Error, SE=Service Error, RE=Receive Error, BE=Block Error, BHE=Ball Handling Error)

*Taylor 4E 21.0 points, 9 digs, .462 Attack %
Magil 2E 11.0 points, 2 digs, .348 Attack %
Adolpho 3E 1BE 6.5 points, 1 dig, .263 Attack %
Greeley 6E 1SE 1RE 2.5 points, 8 digs, .095 Attack %
Higgins 1E 3SE 1BHE 2.0 points, 10 digs, 49 Assist, .111 Attack %
Long 7E 3SE -3.0 points, 13 digs, 1 Assist, .000 Attack %
(Had a negative 3.0 points, but Long’s back-row defense (13 digs) was a big positive for the Wahine. Her passing was a big factor in the Wahine’ win)

Libero/DS
Mendoza 25 digs, 3 Assist
Kahakai 15 digs, 1 Assist, 1RE
Ponce 1SE

*Nikki Taylor’s highly efficient overall stats, factoring points and errors, was worthy of BWPOW honors. In fact, those stats was the best of the season for any Wahine’ pin hitter. The brace limited her ability to hit the ball at different angles.

Up to this point of the season, Magill, when given enough opportunities to put the ball down, have been the only Wahine with a chance for AA honors.

Excerpts from the above (you’ll need to be a subscriber to the Staradvertiser digital/print replica to open the link):

"I found out about 45 minutes before the match," Taylor said. "Adding the padding would have just added to the weight and what I've disliked about it is that it's already heavy. We decided to go without it."

"I think it freed her up," Shoji said. "She felt looser. She was tentative at first, but you could see her confidence grow, was able to hit a variety of shots.

"Nikki stepped up tonight, Ginger stepped it up tonight, made some great defensive plays, passed solid. We needed those career highs tonight."

The key adjustment Hawaii made after Set 2 was letting Taylor serve — she had been subbed out for Kahakai in the first two sets — and have Kahakai serve for Greeley. It gave the Wahine another back-row attack option with Taylor and it was a huge difference.

Shoji credited his associate coach Scott Wong for the change.

Losing Emily Hartung to graduation really hurt. With Nikki Taylor injuring her hitting elbow she has not been able to be consistent. No one else has stepped up to be the go to player on the outside. Olivia Magill can be awesome and dominating. If only Tayler Higgins can deliver more hittable balls (many are consistently set too low for Magill's jump and reach, resulting in a lot of dinks and pushes).
Cats don't have owners. Cats have servants.

Not all those low sets are the fault of Higgins. Olivia sometimes is already airborne even before the ball is set by
Taylor.

Bottom line, Magill is putting up better stat's than when she was in Arizona. IMHO she's AA deserving
