u know i love this kid and predicted he'd be nationally recognized as one of the top pitchers in the nation by season's end? This game, against one of the best hitting teams in the nation, and held them to 1 run? We don't have to wait until the end of the season, i think this game made a statement that with 'Coop on the hill the 'Bows can take on *any* team in college baseball!
Nice Shootin' COOP!

The bats got hot at the right time. 44 hits in 3 games against the 10th ranked team in the nation.

Re: BaseBows vs. UC Santa Barbara
u guys are into college ball.
the end of every inning tweets that sum it up in 256 chars or less are sweet.
check out our last two competitors (before UCSB) u can follow inning by inning 1 tweet each.
sweet. and speaking of *sweet* how was today's *spanking* of UCSB?? YEAHHHH BOWWWS!!
One of the best hitting clubs in the country. except for one inning all weekend we shut them down.
Today, #17, Jarret Arakawa back to the hill. Hate to call him workmanlike, but he doesn't strike guys out, he doesn't walk guys, most of his innings 3 up and 3 down. Why? He gets the batters to hit easy outs. There should be a stat for this, he would be leading it! Results count! This is a pitcher that depends on his "D". and most of what the defense gets are easy.
BTW, we may have a position change at the hot corner after today, Julienne Jones is a decent bat, but average glove. And and a couple errors today on 3B and a couple runs for hits that got by his glove. Could Conner George or LJ Brewster have nabbed those grounders in the infield? I'd be enough doubt to see a position change in the next game. I'd say LJ with the *GUN* he's got for an arm.
SV is superb at 2nd, so JJones won't have a chance getting in there. Flores, always golden glove at first, now that he has found his stroke for real? Owns 1B for the season. Leaves Marcus at DH or iffy for outfield. Kalei at center is a lock. Kalei at right seems to work. So shuffle Marcus/Conner/LJ for 3rd and left. CG or LJ the lead candidates.
and hitting, did we mention hitting? UCSB crowd was subdued, and no offense to local radio Scott Robb on 1320 but i switched to the UCSB radio to hear their take. well, it was pretty sweet.
They talked about the UCSB crowd, not used to losing or being behind. Or being behind by a ton of runs. He also documented the fans streaming out of the stadium after the UCSB bottom of the 8th rally fizzled, and worse, 'Bows came out in the top of the ninth still firing base hits and men on and runs!
UCSB baseball commentator was cool, some of his quotes in the late innings of Sunday's games:
{off the air quote from UCSB Radio Baseball}
"What about Hawaii's offense, *man oh man*".....well yeah, we hit UCSB like 14 on Sunday!
{off the air quote from UCSB Radio Baseball}
"coming into this weekend, UCSB has been one of the best hitting clubs in the country. The 'Bows pretty much kept them in check, except for one inning in the 2nd game, all weekend"
and yes that sums it up, and kudos to the UCSB radio guy, that is the truth. UCSB, one of the powerhouse hitting clubs in the country, shutdown for the weekend (well except for 1 inning) by UH. So, 'Bows, take a bow. Incredible pitching, great "D", and wow, did u guys bring the bats this weekend, way to go!!
BTW, off the record comment, same UCSB radio announcer said Scott Kusminsky's parents (Scott in to pitch after J.Arakawa), announcer said Scott's parent's were internet followers of the game. Well yes, that and then some. Scott's parents were at Murakami stadium for one of Scott's earliest outings this year. I got to meet them, nicest folks u can imagine, dad was a pitcher too. So nice one for Scott and his mom and dad today, sportshawaii forum, UCSB radio note, and internet kudos to, Scott Kuzminsky for the close and the win today.
