All-time Wahine V-ball team
All-time Wahine V-ball team
We have had so many great players over the years, All-Americans, Olympians, etc. Who would be on your all-time Wahine team? I'm looking for a 6-1 line up with only 1 setter, 1 opp, 2 MB's and 2 Oh's.
I've got:
OH Kim Willoughby
OH Deitre Collins
S Robyn Ah Mow
MB Heather Bown
MB Anjelica Lundquist
OPP Suzanne Aggie (if Tee Williams was an OPP I'd have her but I think she was an OH)
GO BOWS!

Re: All-time Wahine V-ball team
Deitre and Suzanne were both MB-subbed when they rotated to the back-row.SM96753 wrote:We have had so many great players over the years, All-Americans, Olympians, etc. Who would be on your all-time Wahine team? I'm looking for a 6-1 line up with only 1 setter, 1 opp, 2 MB's and 2 Oh's.

Tee was a dominate POY and three-time AA OH. Sat out her Freshman year due to academics; otherwise she would have been a 4-time AA.
OH Willoughby/Tee Williams (6-rotation)
S Robyn Ah Mow
MB *Deitre Collins/Anjelica Lundquist 4 time AA-Anjelica was a 6-rotation MB.
Opposite Kahamoku (AA LOH; but, like Willoughby/Williams, played all 6-rotation)
Libero Kanani Danielson/Kanoe Kamana'o (both were 4-time AA-Kanani at OH and Kanoe as a S)
*Deitre Collins or Heather Bown
Re: All-time Wahine V-ball team
I don't know who Suzanne Aggie is but MB Suzanne Eagye is one of my favorite players of all time. I like the lineup above but I would go with current player Hartong as the OPP.
Not doubting, not hating, not loving, just hoping because I am a fan.

The way volleyball is played now I would add a libero and a ds spot to your lineup.

Re: All-time Wahine V-ball team
On the outside, I'll go with Kim Willoughby, Teee Williams, and Kanani Danielson (I know that's three left-side hitters).
For the middles, Angelica Lundquist and Suzanne Eagye.
At setter, I give the slight edge to Kamanao over Ah Mow.
As time passes, I can't remember the opposites of yester-year. Did Jessica Sudduth play opposite? Did Aneli Cubi-Otineru play opposite?
If I had to pick a true back-row player, I'd give the edge to Elizabeth Kaaihue over Ashley Watanabe.
For all you old-timers, honorable mention to Mahina Eleneki.

Just joking, she was a great player. Great to see you NelsonO, you need to stop by our tailgate one of these home games!

Eye Candy for sure! No pun intended, but no way Mahina (5-7 OH) even comes close to making honorable mention-LOL, to many Wahine' OHs NCAA All-Americans.Scott wrote:For her looks or her play?NelsonO wrote:

UPDATES
USVBA/USAV (11 ATHLETES, 16 AWARDS)
2012 Kanani Danielson (MVP)
AVCA (27 ATHLETES, 54 AWARDS)
2013 Emily Hartong
Sand (2 ATHLETES, 1 AWARD)
2012 Jane Croson
*The NCAA used to at one time name All-Americans themselves (for a single year or two, I believe)
TeeE played 6 rotations being quite masterful her JR and SR years. Suzanne played all the way around also and is one of the all-time diggers, too. Lundquist, in hind sight, was pretty ordinary lol. The only reason she shined on the AVCA was because of Robyn's ability to set her flawlessly.
Also, it would be really hard to keep Karrie T. off of any team @MB for her sheer aggression alone, which would've been a force with which to reckon back in the day..haha.
Before them all, it would've been Fanny Hopeau (the Hawaiian who led it ALL off for "Wahine" VB)

Re: All-time Wahine V-ball team
OH Willoughby/Tee Williams (6-rotation)
S Robyn Ah Mow
MB *Deitre Collins/Anjelica Lundquist 4 time AA-Anjelica was a 6-rotation MB.
Opposite Kahamoku (AA LOH; but, like Willoughby/Williams, played all 6-rotation)
Libero Kanani Danielson/Kanoe Kamana'o (both were 4-time AA-Kanani at OH and Kanoe as a S)
This is pretty good by 'seasider'.
For mere athleticism, however, with lots of speed on the hut outside to the pins if warranted:
Setter: Ah Mow
MBs: Collins and Bown
OHs: Williams, Willoughby and Danielson
Libero: Kamana'o
MY favorites (based on the AA lists provided):
Setter: Kamana'o
MBs: Collins and Trieschman
OHs: Williams, Willoughby
Opposite: Ljungquist with Ahuna in the backcourt
Libero: Danielson
Subs: Boyer (S) and Cubi-Otineru (DS)
S Robyn Ah Mow

Re: All-time Wahine V-ball team
An argument can be made for most any player at any position but Robin Ah-Mow was hands down the best setter.
Marilyn Moniz-Kahoohano, Terry Maltere, and Lee Ann Pestana from the earlier years.
