Following the conclusion of the 2012 fall exhibition games, redshirt freshmen 3rd base Keiko Sugihara and 2nd base Stacy Rosengren have left the program on their own terms.

Roster to 22 and can only maintain a travel roster of 20.

Updated profile and team photos to be taken when players return from winter break.

Are they transferring, or staying at UH? I think Sugihara was all conference team captain in volleyball - maybe a softball to volleyball switch like Caroline Blood?

Rosengren has transfered, but I believe Sugihara is still enrolled at Manoa, not too sure at this time.

Just little more INFO on the four scholarship recruits for this up-coming season:

Kristina Akiona 5-8
Lindsey “Keiki” Carlos 5-5
Loie Kesterson 5-8
Alyssa Villaipando 5-8

“Kristina is our future shortstop that can also play third base. She hits for power, has good size, has a strong arm and will fit in well in our program.” says Coolen.

“Keiki is projected to be a pitcher/third baseman for us. She is the complete player. Keiki has the ability to hit for power but also contact, she throws hard and will be an asset for us next year as a freshman.”

“Loie is a left-handed pitcher/outfielder and a right-handed hitter who is projected to play both positions while at UH. She has good discipline at the plate and can hit for consistency and power. As a pitcher, she throws in the low-to-mid 60's with movement. Since watching her the past three seasons, she has improved tremendously and she and Keiki will have to make an immediate impact with the departure of senior pitcher Stephanie Ricketts,” states Coolen.

“Alyssa is a catcher/first base/third base player who is a power hitter. Over the past three years, she has developed into an experienced, seasoned catcher who handles her pitchers well and is a force behind the plate,” says Coolen.

And…

Softball recruiting class for the 2014 season:
Brittany Hitchcock, 5-11 pitcher, Ocean View HS, Huntington Beach
Gaylan “Ulu” Matagiese, 5-6 C/3B/OF, Waimea HS
Heather Morales, 5-8 power pitcher, Indio HS, CA
Lindsey Willmon, 5-8 C/3B, Pleasant Grove HS, Elk Grove, CA

“Brittany is a strong down-ball pitcher with good off-speed pitches.” says Coolen. “She will be expected to step right into the rotation and will only get stronger in college.”

“Ulu has a very strong bat and has really blossomed as a hitter. She has home run potential and has great knowledge of the game,” says Coolen.

“As a pitcher, Heather has command of a variety of pitches in her arsenal. She can throw a rise, drop, curve, and change,” explain Coolen. “She is very agile and versatile player who will hit for herself as a pitcher and can hit at the No. 4-to-No. 8 spot in the lineup.”

“Lindsey has a strong arm and calls a good game and was the catcher for Hitchcock on the SoCal Choppers club team,” says Coolen. “She also plays a solid third base and has a strong bat. She is a confident player who is versatile and can be a power hitter”.
