This team's confidence just took a massive hit tonight.

I think the offense looked anemic with UCR. Nobody can really take it to the basket. There was a double team on Mike Thomas and a block out on Gibson as well. It seems like too that Buggs doesn't move the ball up very quickly on offense allowing the other teams defense to set up. No real three point shooter except for Purchase. Other teams in the BWC seem to hit the threes like its going out of style so the "D" is slow getting to the shooter. There was a point when Thomas was at the foul line open and he chose to take a shot instead of driving to the hole. One highlight of last night was Samuta Avea. Aggressive on the rebounds and pushed the ball up court.

Can UH regain its confidence? Does Ganot lack the ability to motivate? Because this team's confidence is as alive as Elvis.

You may be right punahou. For one thing they don't have a three point shooter other than Purchase who is brought in just for that purpose. They don't go for the three when they are down by 10 and its the end of the game. Drammeh fouls a three point shooter for the second time in four games. You think the coaches would talk to him and tell him never, never foul on a three pointer. They don't play with intensity so Avea is the guy to pick up the pace. At this point, much different from the time this thread started, I don't think Hawaii has too much to worry about in losing a coach.

We managed to beat UC-Irvine, one of the better Big West teams, on the road and not blow a double-digit lead. One can hope that this'll give us confidence.

Couple of things about the game. UCI was not hitting the threes until the 2nd half. Their 3 point percentage was below 20%. Big difference from the other teams Hawaii played. Ganot played situational basketball in the last couple of minutes by substituting Purchase-Johnson based on offense/defense. There was close to 9 minutes in the second half where neither team scored. There is no go to guy on Hawaii. Hawaii went from 100% three pointers to less than 30% threes. They started with 80% FG to below 50% FG. The end result is Eran's ability to sub in the right people helped Hawaii win this. I like the fact that other people take the threes including Mike Thomas and Gibson Johnson to make the other team come out to them in case they start hitting. Also their top rebounder was in foul trouble the entire night.

Unbelievable win by the Bows against UCR. Big, big game for Sheriff Drammeh with 5 for 6 from the three point line. And, the thing is, it wasn't just in the first half or the second half, it was spread out throughout the game. And, they were missing Mike Thomas and Gibson Johnson, their best rebounders, inside men were out for most of the game. Sign of good coaching.

Zigmars Raimo picked up a right step drop with back to the basket to make a left handed layin against LBSU. This makes his right handed drive more deadly. Something about the team that seems to make them play with a lot of intensity right now. Like they want to play and they play hard and smart.

Very big game for Raimo and the rest of the team. Dang that Yussuf is a Mack truck. Good thing that he got into early foul trouble and was not a factor.

In the NBA, they measure the number of times somebody puts a body to block out an opposing team player on rebounds. This counts toward the players defensive capabilities. I gotta say that UH is playing great defense by picking a body to block out on the defensive rebounds. There will still be the Mack trucks like Yussuf but he and Levin were blocked out for most of the game.

Gotta say that, so far, Ganot's players have a lot of class. The returning players and the incoming players look like they have a good nucleus for next year's team. I like the fact that Drew Buggs is getting so many rebounds because it means that all the other big men are clearing out the big men defensively which is indicative of good team defense. Offense stalls sometimes but it usually is because the other team is playing good team defense as well.

I can't figure out why Ferd Lewis headlines basketball falls from great heights. First of all, Hawaii was on suspension and limited scholarship in 2017. Kids left the program. I see Eran Ganot as someone who is making a start in 2018 with a brand new team and someone who has the knowledge to go forward. With the women's bb team, I don't see the same kind of coaching abilities with Beeman but I do see talent in Makenna Woodfolk and Julissa Tago who play basic basketball to take the team to a higher level. Both girls know what to do with the basketball during the game.

What I like about Ganot is that he appears to be recruiting high character student/athletes - maybe also a directive from the athletic department, but this is a good thing for UH's overall reputation perhaps. Tired of the previous prima donnas and team cancers in the program before.

I can't wait for next season. I think we will have a 20+ win, BIg West championship team.
