Next Opponent - Boise State
Boise St is 8-2 (wins: UT-Arlington, Simpson Univ, Seattle U, Univ New Orleans, Idaho, Portland St, Utah & Carroll College and two straight losses: Kentucky and St. Mary). Five returning starters (seniors and junior). Last season they were at-large pick in the NCAA tourney....
Can UH win?
If the President goes to one of Oregon State's games expect bad traffic, and long lines to get into parking garage and into arena. Maybe he should go and watch Punahou play instead....

Boise is a very good team. but they are predisposed to certain things because of the build up of their team. they primarily play a 4 guard lineup and have lots of good shooters, so they run and they can score FAST. they score more than we do. if we get into a scoring match, we will lose unless our guys are absolutely on fire.
but they also have defensive issues. they've let a number of bad teams drop lots of points on them.
if we can play decent perimeter defense (it has to be solid. we dont need to hold them to 25% 3pt shooting or anything, but we do need to close out to keep them from getting those super clean looks), we might be able to exploit their lack of size and some of their defensive issues.
spearman and Nevels need to be locked in on their guy. Marks, Elorriaga and Drmic are all VERY talented scorers.
i'd give us a 40% chance based on their last two games, where their shooters struggled. we arent as good defensively and st mary's, nor do we have the raw talent of Kentucky, but some of BSU's struggles were their own issues, not the defense. if it carries over, we can and should win. if they regain their confidence and/or we play D like we did against Chaminade, we lose by 10-15.
When in doubt, burn it down.

While it is possible that the Bows can beat Boise State, I don't think it is probable. If I was a betting man, I would take Boise State.
I think the Bows will win one game during the DH Classic. I'm hopeful that the home team can win two games.
There is some good competition in the Classic field.

Yeah Fotu played alright considering his injury. But the other two, ugh.
I hope they play better, but I don't see UH beating St. Mary's.

Hawaii beat St Mary's 76-74! Too bad we lost last night because the way boise st handled South Carolina today, it could have been us playing in the ship.

could've, should've...but didn't. They got a chance to go 2-1 in this tourney, so hopefully, they're getting better.reignjah11 wrote:Hawaii beat St Mary's 76-74! Too bad we lost last night because the way boise st handled South Carolina today, it could have been us playing in the ship.

Glad I was wrong xer21. But they still need to play smarter.

oh, yeah. but it's part of having half a new team, and its part of having 18-22 year olds playing basketball.EITSwarrior wrote:Glad I was wrong xer21. But they still need to play smarter.
we can definitely play smarter, but they are still playing very well regardless. they SHOULD have blown this OSU team out of the water, and i think within time this season, they wont be letting teams crawl back into it when they do manage to open up big leads like tonight.
the most important thing is that all the players were unhappy with how they finished, because they know they should have done better.

Hawaii beats Oregon St 79-73! Should have been a blow out but UH struggled with free throws down the stretch. Finish 5th with a 2-1 record in the DHC. Overall very pleased with this team, we can definitely win the big west this year.

I'm gonna say the BIG IF we can win the BIG WEST this year....they have their moments of bliss and daze and confusion......but this is the best team by FAR in the last 10 years!reignjah11 wrote:Hawaii beats Oregon St 79-73! Re: Next Opponent - Boise State
i think its a little early to say that. the 03-04 DID get an NIT invite and won two games in the NIT.Mr.EDGE808 wrote:but this is the best team by FAR in the last 10 years!
that said, i think that this team can definitely be as good, and better than that team.
