HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach Laura Beeman announced the hiring of assistant coach Dekita Williams to her staff.

Williams—who is slated to earn her master's degree in education in May 2014 from the University of Hawai'i—served as a student manager for the Rainbow Wahine this past season. Before coming to Hawai'i, Williams was an assistant coach from 2006-12 at Mount San Antonio College under current head coach Brian Crichlow and under Beeman, who was the head coach for the Mounties from 1994-2010. While at Mt. SAC, Williams helped guide the basketball team to three California state championships in 2007, '08, and '12 as well as six “Elite Eight” appearances and six South coast Conferece titles from 2007-'12. She was also a part of a junior college record 45-game win streak. While at Mt. SAC, she worked with the guards while helping with scouting opponents and recruiting efforts. Williams was also head coach at the West Coast Premier Basketball Academy's AAU club team from 2007-'12. Williams got her start in coaching in 2002-2005 when she was an assistant for the girls' varsity team at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Williams earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in communications in 2002 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she played two seasons for the Rajun' Cajuns. While at ULL, Williams appeared in 56 games with 34 starts. As a senior, she averaged 26.3 minutes with 6.8 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game. Prior to ULL, Williams received her Associate of Arts degree in liberal studies at Chaffey Community College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. where she played two seasons for the Panthers.

"Dekita is an exciting addition to our staff," says Beeman. "She brings a wealth of experience in developing players as well as a lot of recruiting experience and connections on the West Coast. We are excited to have her energy and knowledge as part of our staff."
