Had hawaii played decent the 1st half, theyd probably be winning right now.
Re: Gib Arnold's Future
No renewal for Gib, eh?

On the radio they talked with ben jay at half and he didnt seem to hint that gibs job was in any jeopardy. We shall see though who leaves this offseason.

Re: Gib Arnold's Future
it depends on how much Jay sees in next year's squad.J-Rod wrote:Supposedly. Nobody seems to really know.poidog wrote:No renewal for Gib, eh?
assuming we dont lose anyone this year, next year certainly looks promising, from an athleticism standpoint. this will likely be the team that will finally start running.
but tis still a lot of gambling on unproven quantities.
When in doubt, burn it down.

word on the street is that Jay is not happy about the APR situation of the basketball team. if they lose a bunch of guys again this offseason, it will get worse.reignjah11 wrote:On the radio they talked with ben jay at half and he didnt seem to hint that gibs job was in any jeopardy. Re: Gib Arnold's Future
I thought Gib has one more season on his contract
http://www.staradvertiser.com/sportspre ... 586311&c=nMeanwhile, Jay said there was no timetable on an end-of-season evaluation interview with Arnold.
Arnold is entering the final year of his three-year contract UH reworked in the summer of 2011.
"It's not even about contracts," Jay said. "You sit down with your coaches and talk about the season and what they're doing looking forward. But the coaches (Arnold and Rainbow Wahine coach Laura Beeman) are already working on recruiting. They're back out on the road. So we'll sit down with both coaches and talk about their season. It's part of the evaluation process."

Re: Gib Arnold's Future
per the contract wording, would need 3 tourney wins to get the auto-extension. good luck to them tho, I'll probably try to go to this game.SRJC wrote:http://www.khon2.com/content/sports/sto ... jSz-Q.cspx

Did they specify which tournament? Getting 3 wins in a 3rd rate tourney shouldn't get someone an extension.ubercow wrote:per the contract wording, would need 3 tourney wins to get the auto-extension. good luck to them tho, I'll probably try to go to this game.SRJC wrote:http://www.khon2.com/content/sports/sto ... jSz-Q.cspx

Re: Gib Arnold's Future
I believe if he got into the NCAAs of NIT, he was a lock from the start. In these 3rd rate tourneys (CBI or CIT), he has to win at least 3 games in order to stay. In other words, he HAS to make the championship game or Ben Jay will either have to let him go or start writing up a new contract.Irse wrote: Did they specify which tournament? Re: Gib Arnold's Future
url for contract criteria per 808's post in this thread - http://hawaiiathletics.com/news/2011/11 ... ath=mbballIrse wrote:Did they specify which tournament? Getting 3 wins in a 3rd rate tourney shouldn't get someone an extension.
20 wins, (regular+postseason) is the criteria.
per the same url his three year contract ends after the 2013-2014 season.J-Rod wrote:he has to win at least 3 games in order to stay. In other words, he HAS to make the championship game or Ben Jay will either have to let him go or start writing up a new contract.

Re: Gib Arnold's Future
From what I heard around the scuttle butt he has one more year since they gave him a one year extention. We shall see if he can retain players and bring in recruits to help win more games. If he wins the Big West he may stay a while longer. Otherwise he may be gone.
