Aaric Armstead will visit Hawaii?

Post by stutterinstan »

via Parsing the WAC: http://parsingthewac.blogspot.com/2012/ ... pdate.html

Jessob Reisbeck/KMPH Fresno Channel 26 checks in with some updates involving various WAC teams:

"Bullard star basketball guard, Aaric Armstead is getting closer to making a decision about where he'll play college ball. The Chicago transplant is in the midst of setting up official visits to his three front running schools. They are New Mexico, Hawaii, and Arkansas. There are others still in the mix like Northridge and San Jose State. Fresno State has still not contacted the Armsteads. KMPH will keep you posted as the family continues to move through the process."

Do we got a shot at this guy over New Mexico and Arkansas? Arkansas plays in the SEC, more exposure for him and their coach is former Mizzou coach Mike Anderson. New Mexico is a top team in the Mountain West and went to the Big Dance this past year, with a great coach in Steve Alford. Hopefully we can sell him on living in Hawaii and the atmosphere.

I guess Armstead won't be visiting UH this weekend afterall.

Q: Will more recruits visit this weekend?

A: Not this weekend, we're not going to have any guys in this weekend. But we do have a couple other guys who we've been involved with for quite some time. And we're working on having them come out in the next little while. And then I was involved with some kids overseas as well, kind of waiting on academics and stuff with that too.

If Gib wants to land Aaric, he should also offer younger brothers Adam and Austin

Aaric, Adam and Austin have an older brother Aaron who is Freshman SG at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Until I read this thread thoroughly and did some research, I thought they were also brothers to Arik (Oregon DL recruit c/o '12) and Armond Armstead (USC DL)
Sheez that would have been some family if true, no?

Armstead to take visits

By Josh Gershon
Recruiting Analyst
Posted May 10, 2012

One of the top unsigned prospects in california, fresno bullard wing aaric armstead, is about ready to start taking official visits.

In the near future, 6-foot-5, 185-pound Fresno (Calif.) Bullard 2012 shooting guard Aaric Armstead will begin taking official visits.

According to Aaric's father, Phil Armstead, the top three schools under consideration are New Mexico, Hawaii and Arkansas.

Because Arkansas hasn't officially offered yet, that's the only school of the three which may not get a visit.

"I know he's visiting New Mexico and Hawaii because they've offered," the elder Armstead said. "I can't give dates yet but he will definitely visit those two.

"I think Arkansas is planning on offering Aaric during his visit but I haven't heard them tell me they've offered. The other two have offered him."

Phil Armstead broke down the three top schools on his son's list.

New Mexico: "They have a great program. They have a good history. They were in the Top 25 this year, they have a great coach and it's a great situation. They have a great crowd and Steve Alford is a top notch guy."

Hawaii: "That's a very good situation for Aaric. He could live on the islands, which would be very cool. He's looking forward to going there for the visit. Those guys have done a good job recruiting him and have been to a lot of his games. They've done their work and are right there."

Arkansas: "Coach (Mike) Anderson is a good guy and they have a good program. He has a great history and is well respected out there. We had a friend who played for him and speaks highly of him."

After Armstead takes his visits, then he'll be ready to make a decision.

"We won't do anything until he takes his visits," Armstead said.

Any updates on any of the recruits making visits. It's eerily quiet for the end of the signing period for a recruiter like Gib. He should be running around with his hair on fire.

It's way toooooo quiet. Don't know if grades or SAT score have anything to do with this deafening quiet.

New Mexico just signed a SG today, so qualifying could be the problem. I hope not but there's no other explaination for his delay in making visits to the mentioned schools.

On June 20, 2012, the video below mentions that Aaric Armstead is on his way to Hawaii.
In the mean time, Lorenzo J. Reyna tweeted that a press release for City/County All-Star Basketball game listed Armstead committing to Hawaii.

Still have to wait and see if he gets clearinghouse approval. That's probably the reason why there's no word coming out from Hawaii's news media yet that makes it official.

Didn't see Andy Boogaard's tweet. He's a Fresno Bee writer.

Not good news!

Another Armstead 3 makes it 8-4 City. He didn't score high enough on SAT, so will go to JC or prep school ‪#prepblitz

The Armstead SAT information came from Bullard coach Tony Amundsen, by the way. Hawaii had been pursuing Armstead.

He's better off going to a prep school for a year rather than greyshirting. At least he can play competitive basketball during that time. He can't do that as a greyshirt.

can't be a greyshirt.

he can't enroll without gaining ncaa clearinghouse minimum quals and/or admittance to the university of hawaii who's standards are even higher.

prep school may be to his advantage as he could possibly pass the test next year and not lose any eligibility.

going to a jc means he'll burn at least two years even if one is a redshirt year as is the case of gerry blakes. he'd also need to get that aa degree to come out.
