Looks like a decent prospect. The only question I have is why aren't more schools on him. I mean he has the ability to score, hit the threes, am I missing something on him?

Glad we got an experienced PG from the JC ranks. I expect Rod to really go off this year with a PG who knows how to distribute the rock. Lay and a healthy bulked up Thompson should be a good back court. Now we need another scorer to give Rod some help.

Not to many schools offered Trevor Ruffin or Michael Kubler...Trevor ended up playing in the NBA, and Kubler turned out to be a gem for the 'Bows.

from the article:
"I consider myself a decision-maker," Lay said. "You can't label me just a scorer or a passer, but I'll make the right decision either way. If you leave my open, I'll try to score. If you leave my teammates open, I'll try to help my teammates score."
i like this. this is what we were missing last year. too much hesitation and second guessing. JUST DO IT!

more about Lay and some quotes in this other star bulletin article:
http://www.starbulletin.com/sports/2009 ... _nash.html
"Another thing is, I don't feel like I'm coming into the situation feeling like we're going to lose," he added. "I feel like they brought me in to help us win, and that's what I plan on doing."
aww yeah.

Going back the JC route with Nash needing results and best out of one more Rod year. Hope we tun the corner, eventually get talented freshmen.

How many seasons does a BB coach need to recruit a full team? three? four? How many to really implement his personal playbook style? With the number of scholarships he has available I have to wonder if Nash really has all the players he needs to run what he envisions?

I suppose I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt. Fan morale may seem down but the players seem upbeat. So that's a plus in his favor.

I like how he is already saying "we're" and "us" instead of "me" and "them"! Sounds like a great team player, looking forward to his contributions!

This is a great get.

There are not too many pt guards that can create and shoot the three.

It helps with our biggest problem area last year..............the three point shooter.

Why aren't other big time schools after him? It's very simple. Most big time programs do not look at JC players. Most big time programs only recruit HS players. There is the exception but it is rare. And obviously if they were looking they don't typically go for 6' guards.

It is very difficult to build a program with JCs. In fact I will go out on a limb and say that you can't. That's why we have never had any continuity and long term success. You are constanty trying to jell players here for two years. You can't implement a HIGH efficiency system. With JC players you will never have ALL the players AT THE SAME TIME to run what a coach envisions.

You cannot develop a bench or depth consistently.

Jemremy Lay is a great get. He will help us tremendously.

We do need to find some HS guards like him but it's hard to do because the big time programs scoop them up.

Lay and Williams - although 6'0 each, they both can shoot the 3, score and distribute the ball, so I can actually see both of them on the court at the same time. Kareem will be in the mix with his defense, along with a healthier Hiram. Since all four of them will be juniors next season (I think), we'll have to replace all four at the same time.

It will be nice to see better guard play next season.
