ORU vs. Hawaii thread
UNBELIEVABLE....
Bows were totally out of their flex offense tonight, but this may be the best defensive team we've had in years. Defense keeps them in the game... when the UH players finally get into the flow of the flex, they will be very dangerous... maybe as good as the 2002 team.
Is this team as good as the 2002 team? What do you guys think?

I wouldn't say that. I wasn't impressed with this win. It was great how we won it, but we played horrible. Only time will tell. Too bad we can't mix and match our best players from the past years. Hmm... maybe we should make our all sports hawaii all Hawaii basketball team. Might not be fair to the new guys just yet though, since we still don't know what they can really do.UH Fan wrote:UNBELIEVABLE....

Lil Matt needs to learn how to play unselfishly and stop streetballing and Nash...hopefully this instills the needed confidence in him. Too many turnovers tonight too and Sensley needs to step up, but hey, I haven't seen a Hawaii team play this hard in a while. If they can improve, they can be really good, but they haven't shown enough to prove they can win on the road against good teams.

Sorry about that... maybe I am jumping the gun by comparing this team to the 2002 team (arguably the best UH team in the last 20 years).
But here's something interesting about Riley's teams historically: Hawaii's teams have generally started relatively slow and have had losses against mediocre teams before getting into gear. Two examples: the 1997 team (with AC Carter) started 7-0 until they got upset by Arkansas St. and the 2002 team (with Savo/English) had two upset losses to Colorado St. and San Diego State before turning it on in the WAC season.
This year's team? These guys seem to find a way to win. Sure, Riley's teams in the past have taken a few weeks to work that flex motion offense, but this team uses defense to compensate...
just my 2 cents... Peace!
Go Bows! Go WAC!

I have noticed the defense and rebounding. We're a big team and it looks like everyone is willing to crash the boards. If Oral Roberts wants to look at a statistic to see where they lost the game, they should look at rebounding. They aren't a big team, but that doesn't mean you can't crash the boards better than they did in this game.UH Fan wrote:warriorfan808

In comparison to other UH basketball teams, I think this team could possibly be the worste free throw shooting team we've ever had. If we plan on winning on the road during the WAC season, we're going to have to learn to drain the buckets. It's horrible to have a worste FT shooting performance than practially every school you play at HOME.
If I were to compare them to recent teams, I'd say the 2004 rainbow wahine. I know it's not cool to compare men to women, but everything is falling in place. After the loss of Logan Lee and our star players from last years senior packed lineup, no one thought we would be where we're at right now. Also, how many starters do we have from last year? Hmm...Sensley, that's it. I believe that Blackett came off the bench and so did Bobby. Lets just hope they can perform just as well and get to the sweet 16.

Amen to that. I don't have any hard numbers available, but just by a rough judgement, free throw shooting is the worst I can remember. We've had players who were bad at it, or just went through horrendous slumps (eg Micah Kroeger). But I can't remember any overall team problems shooting the 1s like this team is having.warriorfan808 wrote: In comparison to other UH basketball teams, I think this team could possibly be the worste free throw shooting team we've ever had.
If it's this bad at home, wait 'til they go on the road. If the free-throw shooting doesn't improve, these close wins become 10-point losses.

Maybe they should all shoot from the left of the freethrow line like Justice Sueing. Little Matt might end up being on of Hawaii's best free throw shooters, but the rest of the team are taking lessons from Shack. In comparison to other UH basketball teams, I think this team could possibly be the worste free throw shooting team we've ever had.

Their campus is in Tulsa, Okalahoma and mostly known for their Basketball Team.. You should know by know University Names have nothing to do with campus location.. Else U of Rice would be in JapanThe name doesn't even stand for where the team is from or located. Anyone know where "Oral" Roberts is located?

You are correct, sir.
