2018 HS Football Pick 'Em - Week 1

Post by reignjah11 »

Whats up guys! Football is back, which means the return of the pick em contest is here! The new OIA-ILH merger is gonna make for a lot of interesting matchups this season!

Past Winners:
2017 - go punahou
2016 - gopunahou
2015 - Localfan808, MauiGuy
2014 - rednblue
2013 - reignjah11

Rules: Each week will be its own separate challenge. I'll list 10 games and you pick the winners. The person who gets the most picks correct, wins that week's challenge. Tiebreaker: the person who guesses the game of the week point total correctly or closest without going over wins. At the end of the season, whoever has the most first place finishes will be the 2018 Pick 'em champion!

reignjah11, thanks for putting this game together. I don't want to sound unappreciative, but I liked the game better with the original scoring system, where we'd be awarded a certain amount of points every week based on placing, than those points would be added to a running total spanning the entire season. It gave us losers more of a chance to catch up and claw our way up the rankings by picking all/mostly underdogs or long-shots and hoping for choke upsets that week. But either way is fun. Thanks again for taking the time.

Damn Leilehua letting me down. Just curious for the tiebreaker, does the pick for the Game Of The Week have to be correct? Or is it just based on the points total?

I always appreciate the feedback man! The thing about the old scoring system was that if ppl missed a week or two or joined the pick em contest late, etc. they were basically out of the running. I didnt want that to discourage guys from continuing to play and by half way through the season we'd only have 3-4 guys left. Plus adding and keeping everyone score was a headache so I rather keep it simple. With the current scoring, you can still pick all underdogs if you like and if it doesnt work out, you got a clean slate the next week. Plus with all the open teams playing each other this year, we're gonna have good matchups to pick from. Dont have to worry as much of mismatches like kahuku vs castle where everyone would pick kahuku.

tiebreaker is strictly just based on point total.

All great points and you're 100% right about guys that miss weeks or start late -- I didn't consider that. Thanks again.
