@yeahyou73: FoxMulder said Kamehameha for the boys.

Lahainaluna looks pretty good top to bottom in both boys and girls this year.

Individually, I'm waiting to see what weights everybody decides to go before I make any predictions. I will say that Cabanban looks pretty tough at 126 and if Estrella goes down to 132, he looks tough there too. If Terukina stays at 145, I'll be interested in watching him vs. Pagurayan. I haven't seen Iolani or Kamehameha boys yet, so they might be factors in there too. Another match I'm interested in seeing is Navarro from Lahaina against Xiaolin Mai of Roosevelt at 102. I'm wondering if Tiare Ikei will get to match up with Gooman also.

I guest for TEAM we are going to have to wait for officials to see were they stand, that probably the only time we see all of the team's before states.

Looks like the schools and leagues are doing an EXCELLENT job of killing wrestling.

When is States this year? Wendesday and Thursday??

How many days of matches are there in the regular season?

How many different venues?

Moving States to the middle of the week is a new little act of wrestling genocide. While the dearth of regular season match dates almost makes it not worth the work.

And then, the reduction in round times for consolation matches? Do they do that in Basketball States? Make the quarters less minutes in the consolation games?

@twnoexcuses: My guess is that sports like wrestling will get "de-prioritized" by big-revenue-producing sports like football and basketball. It's the variation on the golden rule: He who generates the most gold, rules.

@talloola25: Another guy on this thread mentioned that he, too, thinks Kamehameha has the best team. And your poll says Leilehua has the best OIA team. Seems that Leilehua came out of nowhere. I heard Campbell mentioned before. Also, surprising that Iolani isn't up there somewhere.

I haven't seen Kamehameha boys yet, but I have heard they're tough. I'm still saying Lahainaluna looks pretty strong too. Campbell really has 3 solid wrestlers and not much else, so I don't see them going too far. St. Louis has a pretty strong young squad, so I'm interested to see how they progress. I hear Iolani only has a couple good kids remaining, so I wouldn't put them in the top 5 either. Leilehua has a couple tough kids, and then I wouldn't count out Moanalua either. As for the individual state champs:

106 - Barron (Roosevelt)
113 - Nagatani (Leilehua)
120 - Terukina (Kamehameha)
126 - Cabanban (St. Louis)
132 - Estrella (Lahainaluna)
138 -
145 - Terukina (Campbell)
152 -
160 - Cooper (Pearl City)
170 -
182 - Respicio (Campbell)
195 - Wright (Campbell)
220 -
285 -

I haven't been watching the heavyweights too much. Also, who wants to take a guess for the girls side?

I believe Leilehua has the most returning state qualifiers in the OIA for a squad. That's why I put them there. Here are some of the highlights they should have.
Nagatani(state finalist)
Stalcup(potential top 3)
Desantos(potential top 5)
Jose(top 8ish)
Punley(top 6 material)
Barefoot(state finalist)
Freitas(potential top 8ish)

Noah wusstig possible top 6
Chase wusstig 5th 145
Agao (state finalist)195

No doubt Moanalua is a real threat. Excited to see them and everyone else compete. Hope no one's sleeping on Lahaina, because they're probably top 3 now that I'm looking at them.

I agree can't count lahaina out, Moanalua has some of there wrestlers not competing in officials, but will be an exciting tournament, I didn't see Noah wusstig or Damien Agao competing today in brackets.

No chatter about officials?

Wusstig, Garcia missing weight?

DEF, FFT everywhere? Injuries and storm outs.

Terukina getting pinned? Won’t happen again

Pagurayan getting pinned? Really wanted to see him and Terukina in finals.

Corbett? Always drama

Congrats to all the placers. It shows a lot of class to lose a tough match and wrestle back side. I give little Terukina and “little” Pagurayan credit for finishing out the tournament. They were definately favored to make finals.
