Politclyincrekt's 2016 Power Rankings

Post by politclyincrekt »

Some numbers are off because of the lack of parity between inter-divisional opponents. These scores should work themselves out by the end of the weekend. Also, this is the only week where teams that played were allowed to pass teams that did not play. Starting next week, teams cannot move up or down through a team that did not play.

I know you have some scientific formula to figure this out, and it is quite early to get a good grasp of teams strengths. However, ranking KSHawaii #2 at this point of the season after beating or as you say, demolishing horrible Division 1 Waiakea, is a little confusing. Waimea, Kauai demolished Waiakea as well but you have them at 15th. Also, just a little insight into the teams on the Big Island, most have at least scrimmaged each other once or twice so far. I watched two of the scrimmages that KSH played and let me tell you, they got demolished by lower ranked DII teams Lahainaluna and Konawaena. Again, I've been around a few years and followed your rankings. For the most part you are pretty damn good, but unfortunately I had to call a spade a spade. For those who watched the Kona/ KSH /Kealakehe scrimmage know exactly what I'm talking about, it wasn't even competitive.

Totally agree with GETREAL$. For some reason or another KS Hawaii always seems to get ranked higher than where they should be. Didn't get to see the tri-scrimage but heard that Konawaena looked really good for how early it was. Also heard from a friend that they have talant in the trenches to go along with some size this year. My friend also claimed that Konawaena had the bigger linemen out there...is that true? If so I can't remember the last time that statement was true. Also heard their team speed was not even close to the other two squads out there. Hey who knows, maybe KSH gets better and belongs there but as of right now I don't think they are the second best team in division two.

You are both right. My ranking usually runs opposite of Unpaid's - where his is subjective, I've created the formula to make the rankings as objective as possible. As you said, the formula works itself out as more and more games are played. But early season always gives me trouble when we have teams beating up on other teams thereby inflating their scores. I suspect that Konawaena's game vs. St. Francis will push them over KSH.

Give it a couple more weeks and it'll work itself out. KSH has about as much business being 2nd in DII as Moanalua has being 5th in DI.
