@bandits1: Well, OK. I certainly get what you mean when you say you dislike the major ILH schools; I can understand your feeling that way.bandits1 wrote:^^^You should just bite the bullet and italicize an entire paragraph for extreme emphasis haha.
And I cheer for the OIA because there isn't a single Oahu public school I dislike more than the major schools in the ILH. In-league or regional rivalries are one thing, but if you check out the online banter when this Open Division was first announced, those rivalries are nothing compared to the OIA-ILH rivalry. Nothing.

If you wonder where all of the Iolani hate stems from, blame it all on ONE MAN: Infidel. Or STL79. Or Auffrey79. Or Big Dog. Or whatever the hell he wishes to call himself. The way he sounded here, he might be the biggest Donald Trump supporter on the planet. LOL, he probably wishes he could give Mr. Trump HEAD!
I'd love nothing more than to feed him his nuts for lunch and then watch his life fall apart with accusations of having child porn on his computer? You still gonna be a big dog then, Infidel? You think your Iolani elitism can save you then?
I appreciate that the new Iolani user here don't seem to possess elitist traits the way Infidel does. The elitists at Iolani give THE WHOLE SCHOOL A BAD NAME? But can you honestly find an Iolani student/graduate that isn't an elitist? Tough task.
Anyway, tell me if you hate Infidel as much as me and wish to ruin his life with child porn accusations. To support Infidel would be to be a MUCH WORSE person than OJ Simpson, Charles Manson, and Saddam Hussein COULD EVER BE! If somebody murdered Infidel and caused him to die in agony, he'd be a HERO! People like Infidel deserve to suffer in horrific agony and feel powerless to end their pain! When that man dies, I'll throw the biggest party EVER!

Kind of. The Hamada/Look game plans don't seem to change that much. They just lean more towards one part when they have someone like Igber (more runs) or Brian Ah Yat (more deep balls). Given the choice, Look will run and control the ball with a short to medium passing game. But it's all within the framework. The OL and DL are bigger than in my day. Maybe the fact that the school lunches are actually edible now helps.gopunahou wrote: Was this the case when Joe Igber played for you guys?
Iolani has to make it work with what they have. Many smaller, quick-ish, obedient, motivated, group-oriented kids.. The system employs them well.
Mililani has talent to score a lot of points against us. But Look's teams seem to always hang in there. I think we contain them just enough to win a surprisingly low scoring game (by Mililani standards).
Re: Unpaid D-I Football
Good luck to the DII and 7th place game participants.
How you could be dead last and winless in your division or winless in the playoffs and still get a shot to be labelled D1 champs is just @** backward. It's nice that they get to keep playing and we get to watch more football. But don't blend the consolation winner in with the real champs.
Tomorrow the last 5 D1 champs should read
2012 Kahuku (OIA)
2013 Punahou (ILH)
2014 Mililani (OIA)
2015 Kahuku (OIA)
2016 7th place team

I agree ... It is all good and nice to have more divisions ... and spread the love ... everyone deserves to be a champion. Iolani got a free ride and is making the most of it. However, they went winless in the ILH and loss twice to Kamehameha. It is unfair to Kamehameha in my opinion ... no matter how well Iolani does Kamehameha should be ranked above them because they beat Iolani twice head to head. Kamehameha is being penalized for not being invited to the dance and wasn't given the chance to prove themselves in the rankings. I think the OPEN DIVISION should be renamed DIVISION I.
Mililani vs Iolani winner in my mind is the true Division II Champion. In my mind they added a Division III for this year. While we are at it, why not do away with the JV teams altogether and let schools bigger schools enter multiple divisions. More teams, more competitions, more games, more opportunities, more State Championship winners, and more recognition. Why? My guess is that some of these JV teams are better than the DII teams and yet the winner will call themselves State Chumps!
Re: Unpaid D-I Football
Iolani and Mililani should be playing for the Consolation Championship. That's exactly what it is. Just seems like a cheap way to get Iolani among the elite.Opihiman wrote:soleu wrote:Good luck to the DII and 7th place game participants.

"Hey champ, I know you beat me and all but I'll be champ and you can be Open Champ. Sounds like a deal?"
Re: Unpaid D-I Football
That was my first question when I heard about the new playoff system. How would they know that Iolani is good enough to deserve a playoff berth? This year, ok. But what about 3 years from now? If we lose all our conference games and win a few nonconference games, what does it mean? What if we win 2 conference games and then lose the rest? No one knows.
Iolani is still a tweener and it's still messing up the division system. This year's playoff setup only kind of solves it.

Re: Unpaid D-I Football
I get so irritated when I read about how Iolani got a free ride to the DI title and how it SHOULD be Kamehameha playing tonight. Uuuummmmmm...the head coach of Kamehameha CHOSE his fate. He chose to play in the Open division knowing full well that his team could never beat the likes of St. Louis...Punahou....Kahuku...Kapolei...etc.
He was ADVISED to declare Division 1 instead of Open but his big head got in the way. Sure you want to play against the best, but seriously, when is the last time Kamehameha could contend with the big boys? They are only a step above Iolani nowadays. And no...I did not go to Iolani. I went to public school actually! But everyone here needs to know that Kamehameha COULD have and SHOULD have been playing tonight but that the coach made the decision to go for Open. It's not like Look called Maafala and said hey, "Can you just go up so I can stay down?"
So again, I am not necessarily cheering for Iolani, but I am upset that people aren't pointing the finger at the correct person. Coach Look did what was right for his team. did Coach Maafala?

Re: Unpaid D-I Football
From my understanding, Kamehameha's AD was asking for them to be in the Division 1 bracket instead of the Open when this idea was being proposed and the AD's in the ILH opposed to that idea. So Kamehameha's AD did fight for that spot or the 3rd place team in the ILH which would have been Kamehameha this year but all the other AD's were opposed to them even being in the D1 Bracket because they are too big of a D1 school if that makes sense. Like that would be like if Saint Louis hasn't won an ILH D1 Game in 4 years and they want to be in the D1 Bracket, would you want them to be in that bracket still even though they have been losing for the last 4 years.. umm NO! Anyway maybe Ma'afala didn't want to be in D1, who knows. What everyone else needs to understand is, everyone is complaining about Iolani not winning in League play and it's unfair for Kamehameha (which it is, but as the saying goes.. it is what it is)
BUT can you imagine if Kamehameha was in there. Teams in the "D1" bracket can't even beat Iolani and you guys are saying Kamehameha should've been in there. Then for sure OIA guys would hate the ILH even more because Kamehameha would probably walk to the championship game. That's just my opinion, Kamehameha couldn't hang with the top 6 teams in the state this year, but they should beat the bottom 4 OIA teams in my opinion. Waianae beat them in pre-season. Doesn't mean anything, Punahou beat Kapolei, Farrington, and Kahuku in pre-season. Doesn't matter now. Kamehameha's record doesn't show it but they actually are a really good team. Punahou and Saint Louis are just better than them the last few years.
But I do hope Mililani beats Iolani.

Makes sense. My source was a disgruntled Kamehameha parent lol, so who really knows what happened behind closed doors. I do agree that it should just be Div. 1, 2 & 3 though.ka'ahupahau706 wrote:From my understanding, Kamehameha's AD was asking for them to be in the Division 1 bracket instead of the Open when this idea was being proposed and the AD's in the ILH opposed to that idea. Re: Unpaid D-I Football
Control scrimmages really don't count towards win/lose records. It's just a mutual practice between teams.
Re: Unpaid D-I Football
Meh, I don't really care who wins tonight. I don't care if Baldwin or Campbell got it. Consolation shouldn't get the elite title. "Winners of the consolation tourney" should go on the banners. They don't get the Prep Bowl champ/State Champ treatment.ka'ahupahau706 wrote:From my understanding, Kamehameha's AD was asking for them to be in the Division 1 bracket instead of the Open when this idea was being proposed and the AD's in the ILH opposed to that idea. I find it funny that things change when only 1 school becomes irrelevant. ILH been dominating Boys and Girls VB. You don't see that playoff system getting changed. ILH sweeps the water polo titles but no change there. The only sport that Iolani can't hang in is D1 football, hey let's create a new D1 tourney. C'mon now.

I like that, or just put 7th place. I don't like the fact it says D1 State Champions because you're right now it changes the landscape of previous D1 Winners. I hope in the grand scheme of things with all these great playoff games, I wouldn't mind seeing both leagues merge OIA & ILH playing against each other during the season. Good luck to all teams tonight and tomorrow night. May the most prepared teams win. Can't wait what's in store for next football season.

@HaterOfElitists: Well, actually I don't hate Iolani, but I definitely do dislike them. For example, I resent that they took state D1 girls' volleyball and state boys' cross-country. But even if they didn't take either title, I would still want them to lose tonight's game against Mililani. I mean, I can't exactly say I love Mililani, but I like them a lot more than I like Iolani. I appreciate that the new Iolani user here don't seem to possess elitist traits the way Infidel does. The elitists at Iolani give THE WHOLE SCHOOL A BAD NAME? But can you honestly find an Iolani student/graduate that isn't an elitist? Tough task.
