Last Week: 12 of 18 (.667)
Overall: 21 of 31 (.677)
ImageImage - GAME OF THE WEEK
#5 Farrington over #8 Iolani - Powerscore difference of -037.74
Image
This game will definitely be closer than what we are used to when Iolani plays Division I teams. Both Farrington and Iolani field powerful defenses. It'll be Farrington's depth on the offensive side of the ball that will win them this game. Iolani will not be able to outlast the Governors against the sheer number of weapons they have.

ImageImage
#6 Kamehameha-Kapalama over Hilo - Powerscore difference of -045.77
Image
The Warriors have the Vikings outclassed in every single category here and I expect the Warriors to win this bout. This game is an interesting gauge for Kapalama's future performance against Punahou.

ImageImage
Castle over Waianae - Powerscore difference of -000.07
Image
No two teams could be more alike at this point in the season than Castle and Waianae. Both are looking to continue their momentum from stunning wins last week (Waianae beat Moanalua in overtime while Castle stunned Campbell late). Castle's defense will need to outlast the balanced attack by Waianae all the while finishing drives of their own. If they can stay healthy and play all 4 quarters, they can pull out the win at home.

ImageImage
#4 Kahuku over Kaiser - Powerscore difference of -309.85
Image
If Kaiser were 2-0 instead of 0-2, it'd be a safe bet that the Cougars could pull the upset two years in a row. Unfortunately, the opposite end of their running, scoring machine is hemorrhaging points and you can expect Kahuku's stable of backs to take full advantage of Kaiser's weak defense.

ImageImage
Waipahu over McKinley - Powerscore difference of -000.07
Image
While both offenses are extremely anemic and on paper McKinley's defense is stronger, one cannot ignore how efficiently the Tiger Defense allowed Mililani to score in last week's 73-14 thumping. The situation becomes dire when this could be the only win for either team this season (as it was last year) and both the Marauders and the Tigers could be fighting for a wild card berth this week.

ImageImage
#7 Moanalua over Aiea - Powerscore difference of -039.55
Image
Both offenses are playing extremely well this season and it'll be up to the defenses to win this week. I expect both teams to score in bunches. I do not expect Aiea's defense to stop Moanalua's rushing assault and Na Menehune will come up with the win on the ground.

ImageImage
#2 Mililani over Campbell - Powerscore difference of -051.95
Image
The Trojans will have to take care of business on the ground more so than they'd like but they'll come out on top at home this week against the visiting Campbell Sabers. The game will be close but I see the Sabers slipping to 0-3.

ImageImage
#9 Kailua over #10 Kapolei - Powerscore difference of -005.85
Image
Each teams' weakness will play to the other's strength. And that'll be the story this week when Dream Team Kailua beats Kapolei in a very close game. Kailua will need to shore up its secondary and put pressure on Kapolei's quarterbacks if they want to stop the new Hurricane offense.

ImageImage
Kalani over Kalaheo - Powerscore difference of -000.50
Image
Kalani has had very close losses so far and Kalaheo's lack of a run game will give the Falcons their first win of the season.

ImageImage
#5* Pearl City over Waialua - Powerscore difference of -001.87
Image
Contrary to passed years, Pearl City is relying on its defense and rushing offense to win games this season. Both of these teams love to run the football but it'll be the Charger defenses making enough stops at home to give the Bulldogs their first loss.

ImageImage
Radford over Roosevelt - Powerscore difference not available
We haven't seen much of Radford play. Although Roosevelt looks vastly improved from previous seasons, history serves as a reminder that Radford is still very much a contender. Rams improve 2-0.

ImageImage
#1* Lahainaluna over KS-Maui - Powerscore difference of -055.75
Image
Lahaina's annual thrashing of its Maui schedule begins this week against KS-Maui.

ImageImage
#6* Damien over Hawaii Prep - Powerscore difference not available
Hawaii Prep opens their season against a resurgent Damien squad hell-bent on making it to states. It'll be close but Damien is too experienced at this point in the season to lose to the Ka Makani.

ImageImage
#10* St. Francis over Honokaa - Powerscore difference of -156.44
Image
The Saints offense must rise to the occasion this week against Honokaa if the Saints are to leave Ching Field with a win. If the Saints defense keeps Honokaa out of the end zone, St. Francis could improve to 2-1.

ImageImage
#4* Konawaena over #9* Kauai - Powerscore difference of -017.45
Image
Kauai's offensive hasn't produced anything on the ground nor has the defense been able to dig in the trenches. Expect Kona to take full advantage and rise to 2-0.

ImageImage - UPSET ALERT
Waimea over #7 Pac-Five - Powerscore difference if -041.07
Image
In their only game this season (vs. Kalani), Pac-Five was forced to launch the fireworks when production on the ground couldn't jump start. Despite winning at the last minute, the Wolf Pack defense laid out the red carpet for Kalani's rushers. Waimea, on the other hand, has won on the shoulders of an efficient offense and a stubborn defense. Expect Waimea to KIF play 3-0 overall.

More shockers this week. Looks like the football landscape has changed this year. Mililani plummets due to relatively weak schedule compared to other top ranked teams as well as performance against common opponents. Trojans are still ranked among the undefeated, however. As early season blowouts become less and less of a factor, top teams need to continue to perform if they want to stay on top in the rankings. The top teams in both divisions are slowly pulling away from the rest in the power scores.

Last Week: 13 of 16 (.813)
Overall: 34 of 47 (.723)

ImageImage - GAME OF THE WEEK
#3 Farrington over #7 Moanalua - 58.0%
Image
Farrington's defense is simply too good for Moanalua to run through. The Govs will pick-up the win in this week's Game of the Week. Farrington improves to 3-0. Moanalua evens out to 2-2.

ImageImage
#10 Waianae over Leilehua - 97.4%
Image
Waianae is gaining some serious momentum headed into the OIA season. Leilehua's uptempo offense is non-existant this year. Expect Waianae to control the game from the start. Waianae remains undefeated in the OIA at 3-0 (3-1 overall). Leilehua drops to 0-3.

ImageImage
#2 Kahuku over McKinley - 99%
Image
The Red Raiders are going to run it down McKinley's throat. Plain and simple. If McKinley were to forfeit a game this season, this would be it. Kahuku remains undefeated at 4-0. McKinley's long season continues at 0-4.

ImageImage
Castle over Waipahu - No percentage
Image
Waipahu's statistics received a buff last week against McKinley. Castle is too good and too scrappy to lose to Waipahu. Castle recovers 2-2. Waipahu drops to 1-2.

ImageImage
#9 Kailua over Aiea - 81.5%
Image
The Surfriders keep the dream alive this week as their defense comes up big against Aiea. Surfriders remains undefeated at 4-0; most wins since 2011. Aiea slips to 1-3.

ImageImage
#6 Mililani over Kapolei - 87.1%
Image
Mililani's run game will tear Kapolei's defense to shreds this week. The Hurricane's will be feeling the effects of their bout with Kailua and the Trojan's will take advantage of Kapolei's short week to remain undefeated 3-0. Hurricanes slide to 1-3.

ImageImage
Honokaa over Keaau - 74.3%
I expect a sizeable boost to Honokaa's powerscore after their win against Division I Keaau. Honokaa gets on the board 1-2. Keaau continues winless 0-2.

ImageImage
#1* KS-Hawaii over Kealakehe - 77.5%
Image
KS-Hawaii's defense with Kealakehe's lack of offense will give the Warriors an undefeated 4-0 record. I wouldn't be surprised if the Waveriders are blanked by Division II Kamehameha as they end the week 1-3.

ImageImage
#4* Konawaena over Waiakea - 98.0%
Image
The Wildcats are too balanced and too good, especially on defense, to let Waiakea off the hook. Konawaena stays undefeated 3-0. Waiakea falls to 0-4.

ImageImage
KS-Maui over King Kekaulike - 94.7%
Image
After stunning Lahainaluna, KS-Maui will capitalize on its momentum to beat King Kekaulike. KS-Maui will remain undefeated in MIL play at 2-0 (2-1 overall). King Kekaulike continues to fall 0-3.

ImageImage
Hilo over Hawaii Prep - No percentage.
Image
The Ka Makani didn't complete a single pass during their bout with Damien. And Hilo has yet to score a single point. That being said, the learning curve for Ka Makani's key positions is too great at this point in the season. Hilo will be the only Division 1 BIIF team to win their game this week, improving to 1-2. Hawaii Prep falls to 0-2.

ImageImage - UPSET ALERT
Baldwin over #2* Lahainaluna - No percentage.
Image
Don't let the stats fool you. Baldwin's schedule has been unforgiving so far and the Bears are ready to upend Maui rival Lahaina. Baldwin opens MIL play at 1-2. Young Lahainaluna will drop to 1-3 before they learn to run.

ImageImage
Waialua over #10* Roosevelt - No percentage.
Image
Make no mistake: Roosevelt's win over McKinley will carry the Rough Riders through the rankings to a certain point. Waialua will remain undefeated this week at 4-0. Roosevelt will continue to fall 1-3.

ImageImage
#9* Radford over Kalani - 98.5%
The race for play-offs has already begun and Radford will look to increase its lead against Kalani this week. The Falcons, on the other hand, are fighting to get back into the play-off picture. Radford improves 3-0. Falcons fall to 1-3.

ImageImage
Kalaheo over Anuenue - No percentage.
Whether by forfeit or otherwise, Kalaheo should get on the board at 1-3 this week while Na Koa drops to 0-4.

ImageImage
#8* Nanakuli over Kaimuki - No percentage.
The Golden Hawks are on a mission and racing for play-offs. Kaimuki is simply outmatched this week. Nanakuli improves 2-1. Kaimuki drops to 1-2.

OIA Red Prediction
3-0 Kahuku
3-0 Waianae
2-1 Castle
1-2 Waipahu
0-2 Leilehua
0-2 Kaiser
----- PLAY OFF -----
0-3 McKinley

OIA Blue Prediction
3-0 Mililani
3-0 Kailua
2-0 Farrington
1-2 Moanalua
1-2 Aiea
0-2 Campbell
----- PLAY OFF -----
0-3 Kapolei

OIA White Prediction
3-0 Waialua
3-0 Radford
2-0 Nanakuli
1-1 Pearl City
----- PLAY OFF -----
1-1 Kaimuki
1-2 Kalani
1-2 Kalaheo
0-3 Roosevelt
0-3 Anuenue

Re: Politclyincrekt's 2015 Football Rankings & Predictions

Post by politclyincrekt »

I had some extra time today so here are some fun "What If?" scenarios I ran with the rankings and otherwise:

What would McKinley have to do this week if they want to jump to the Top 10?
McKinley is currently ranked last among all Division I teams with a powerscore of 0.08. The Tigers go up against Kahuku (who has the highest powerscore at 211.31. What would McKinley have to do this week if they wanted to enter the Top 10 (barring rules on advancing on DNPs)?

For McKinley to enter the Top 10, the Tiger's would need to raise their power score to at least 7.94 (+0.01 from Waianae's 7.93). To do this, McKinley will have to blank Kahuku 176-0. This season, Kahuku's defense forces teams to travel about 32 yards per point. At this rate, McKinley will need to amass 5,632 yards against Kahuku (3,600 of which would come off the arm of McKinley's quarterback Elyjah-Dane Badua). In realistic terms, using averages for McKinley since they reentered the Division I in 2012, the Tigers will need approximately 11 games (or another season entirely) to score the amount of points needed to enter my Top 10 this week.

There is a lot of season left and it isn't mathematically impossible for the Tigers to enter the Top 10 sometime this season, but the way they have been playing and the opponents left I don't see it happening realistically.

What would it take for Kahuku to drop to last place?
Due to the nature of the rankings, it is impossible for Kahuku to drop too far week in and out. But what would have to happen for Kahuku to drop behind McKinley? The wheels would need to fall off the Red Raider program entirely. The quickest way for Kahuku to drop below McKinley would be to score no points for 9-weeks in a row. Only then will Kahuku drop below McKinley's 0.08 powerscore.

What Would Kailua's Dream Season Look Like This Season?
Kailua is fully capable of going 5-2 headed into the OIA play-offs. They'd finish as the Blue Seed 3 and play against Red 6 (most likely Waipahu) at home. This is a game that Kailua would win. Kailua would then advance to visit the Red 2 (Waianae). After a hard fought battle and a lot of luck, Kailua would enter the semi-finals against Mililani and lose. The third place game would be Farrington vs. Kailua (while Mililani and Kahuku lock horns in the final). Provided Kailua wins the third place game, Kailua would advance in the state tournament to visit either Baldwin, Maui, or Hilo (depending on seeding). After winning their first game, Kailua's season would come to an end in the semi-finals against either the OIA Champion or ILH Champion.
