Re: 2014 HS Football Pick 'em - Week 6
I'm actually 50-50 on this. Sounds contradicting but I am expecting the saints to win but I'm betting on Iolani because I like the possibility specially against this year saints... The raiders in the past was able to upset the saints during their good season. I'm just not convinced after their win against PAC5 last week. Raiders is not like PAC5, it's not a typical DII team.HS Football Fanatic wrote:Just curious: What makes you pick Iolani over St Louis?jrboi96786 wrote:Kahuku

You are correct. Iolani is a D1 team that is scared to compete on the D1 level. Kaiser, Waipahu, Mckinley, Aiea all have the cahone's to do it.jrboi96786 wrote:I'm just not convinced after their win against PAC5 last week. Raiders is not like PAC5, it's not a typical DII team.

Re: 2014 HS Football Pick 'em - Week 6
Regardless of what happens against St. Louis, the ILH should stick to its plan of moving Iolani to D1 after the season ends should they win D2 again. I doubt that the game will be a rout. Iolani should come within 14 points of them. The only team that's got a major certainty of beating them by 30 points or more is Punahou. The Kamehameha game could go a lot of ways IMO. When it comes to Iolani and St. Louis, the numbers may surprise you. There are more boys in grades 9-12 at Iolani than there are at St. Louis. Also, this may be Iolani's biggest team since Donny Mateaki was there. I don't think that's a fluke. I think that's a sign of things to come. Maybe the big kids that HS Football Fanatic says SL lacks all went to Iolani.

Re: 2014 HS Football Pick 'em - Week 6
1. I think Iolani probably SHOULD INDEED be considered a D1 team this year, because they have a big O-line. You figure they can't complain about a physical mismatch this year.gridiron22 wrote:You are correct. Iolani is a D1 team that is scared to compete on the D1 level. 2. Conversely, the question arises whether Waipahu and McKinley shouldn't actually be considered D2 teams this year. At the very least, McKinley usually has fairly big linemen, but it seems that both their O and D are weak. They're yielding lots of points, AND aren't scoring very many of their own. Waipahu is particularly disappointing. Like McKinley, they usually have big linemen, but in addition they have a large student enrollment (quite larger than McKinley's). I don't know what Waipahu's excuse is, for the season they're having thus far. In the case of both teams, I realize that big linemen aren't everything. Those two teams almost never make the Top Ten, but at the same time they usually don't get beaten as badly as they have so far this year. Interesting how some smaller schools (in terms of enrollment) like St Louis and Kahuku seem to simply reload their football teams each year, while some large-enrollment schools--like Waipahu--have teams (like this year's) that experience collapse. St Louis' D might be somewhat weak, but they have an unreal passing game.
