This year the USA Western Regionals in Pocatello Idaho is June 21-27 with Freestyle and Greco duals June 19-20.
The dual festival is adding a middle school division this year. Not schoolboy but 6th-8th graders.
In short your wrestlers will get 5 team dual matches on Friday, 5 more on Saturday, rest one day and then enter a 3 style 6 day tournament on 24 mats. That is mat time!

Any Hawaii wrestler with a full membership USA card can go, anyone with a bronze coach card can sit in the chair. Free shirt for everyone who registers on trackwrestling.com. Idaho State dorms are just $12 a night.

Also the girls format has changed from Girls freestyle division with the option to enter the boys tournament. It is now girls freestyle and girls folkstyle running parallel with the boys tournament. Girls would have the option to enter boys Greco division since there is no girls Greco offered. I was told there would be some type of girls wrestling event during the Greco to make it equal value. Basically 6 days of wrestling for everyone from Bantams to Juniors.

Now ya know so spread the word!

ILH intermediate season started today. They will be going strong until their championships February 14.
What Oahu schools are doing intermediate wrestling other then Waianae and the ILH?

What would really help build Hawaii wrestling would be for the University of Hawaii at Manoa to have a wrestling team at the NCAA level. I have heard this complaint about Hawaii wrestling for decades and one thing hasn't changed...UH has not had a NCAA wrestling team.

The message you want to sent about Hawaii gets diluted when all of your top wrestlers have to go out of the state to continue wrestling at the collegiate level.

Unpaid: UH adding D1 wrestling would be incredible. There are a lot of strong traditional wrestling communities on the mainland that can't get their area D1 schools to reinstate wrestling. For UH to do it out of the blue would be a welcomed shock. I think getting HPU or Chaminade to add a program for men and woman at the same time is a reasonable goal for Hawaii's growing wrestling community. Our woman's team would be very competitive from day 1. I think all the points made in this article apply to Hawaii more so then Michigan so let's get started.

1hawaii,

That's an interesting article.I liked the statement where the HC said the programs should also include training its athletes for Olympic and World competitions.

Maybe it is more likely one of the smaller colleges would start wrestling?....I don't know, but if just one university in Hawaii creates a team then there would be a springboard to possible NCAA,Olympic, and World success that would go right through the Islands.

Unpaid, could not agree more! I think HPU is doing some great things and is on the rise. If it ever added a good size gym for its basketball programs maybe it could add a wrestling room too.

Can we start to build youth, club, Olympic and summer wrestling now or do we have to wait until March 8th?
We should be smack dab in the middle of youth Folkstyle season like everyone else in the country! Who wants to wrestle!?! Kauai are you going to host a youth wrestling tournament this year? How about you Big Island? Oahu, what clubs are going to throw down and host tournaments so you can have a full planned season up to Freestyle and Greco State Championships June 12-13? Instead of talking smack on Campbell just want to say thank you to them for always offering a gym and mats to wrestle on in the first place. I bet you they step up and host at least 1 tournament during club season, that would be 1 more then a lot of their critics.

Public Intermediate school wrestling teams, where are you!? Just going to let the ILH do it right year after year?

Maui's Folkstyle Youth State Championships is May 9th. Then running Freestyle and Greco tournaments every Saturday up to Oahu's Championship June 12-13.

Team Hawaii! West Regional Duals! We need everyone and anyone to help support bringing 2 High School dual teams this year. Last year Team Hawaii did great, so let's build on it. Also, there is a new Middle School Dual offered too so let's bring 2 Middle School dual teams too.
Build it and they will come. I'm a believer, drank the kool-aid, living the pipe dream!

What is the plan this "off-season"?

Most people have the will to win, few have the will to prepare to win.
