Got to watch a few matches before I left for work today and I have to admit the 132 bracket is a fans dream. I mean east1 vs west1 in the semis and a state champ vs a state placer at 132 on the other side. A bunch of quality wrestlers in that bracket. Should be fun.

I believe both the OIA and the MIL deserve another spot and fishtails is the solution for all. Who deserves it more is fun stuff on a forum. Perhaps each OIA school can ask an MIL school to purchase 1 dozen Krispy Kremes on their behalf. With 22 OIA and 9 MIL schools buying a dozen each we could change the world!

The ILH does have a strong showing year in and year out so I'm good with their 4 as is. Bigger teams, bigger brackets, bigger leagues and hopefully those expensive, time consuming fishtails make a comeback. Who would get the 4 new spots again? OIA 1, MIL 1...does ILH get 5 before BIIF gets 4? Does OIA get 2 spots before KIF gets another?

PS. If anyone wants to do a "state wide" intermediate school tournament we can do a 32 man bracket and you can bring your whole team, no doughnuts necessary!

It was a cool 2 days of wrestling action at Leilehua. Who would have figured the #1 pound for pound boys wrestler Zach Diamond would have lost to Bailey of Waianae and finish at the 6th spot? Zach didn't compete in finals competition and settled for the 6th spot. His brother Issac didn't fare so well either loosing to a tough roosevelt wrestler in the quarter finals 8 - 4.

The most interesting match of the night was between Ludiazo and Oshii of Redford. Don't believe that star advertiser jive written by Jerry Company. Ludiazo didn't just strut his stuff and magically win the match, oh no, this one was really close. It went to 3 overtimes for Ludiazo to pick the 1 point win by getting an escape. if Oshii had the choice of picking bottom first he would have won the 3rd overtime. Question is, who the hell is this Oshii heavyweight from Radford? Much props and respect to Ludiazo and Oshii for a great match to end the day.

Maui Lee took the 182 finals over Micah Tyanes. That fractured tail bone that Lee is wrestling with was really evident after his victory as he looked like he was in a trance dealing with the pain. That was one hell of a gutsy performance, hats off to Lee.

Josh Galarde from Campbell had an awesome tournament. He too first against Ikei of Kaiser. Now granted Ikei has a busted hand and is in a glove cast of sorts, but the tournament definitely belonged to Galarde. Let's see if he can carry that momentum into states.

The girls side was interesting with Pundyke going down to Leong 5 - 0. This makes it 3 win in a row for Leong over Pundyke. The larger Alo's Jocelyn 182 and Sabrina 220 both went dow to pins from Aiea and Waipahu. Both were surprisingly manhandled especially Sabrina Alo. Asia Evans was doing so well until she got head and armed to a fall. Lucky for her Teniya Alo isn't in her weight class, so there still is hope.

Campbell boys and girls won the team race. Campbell will represent the OIA at the state seeding meeting tomorrow.

Can't wait till next weekend! Aloha!

Reports are that Lahainaluna failed to put states qualifiers in 5 weights. Is that true?

She is a senior. Pretty sure she is not injured or anything. No one is going to beat her. Man she had more presence and respect than her brothers.

Moore, Diamond, Kawaihae and Palimoo all 16 seeds. A few 1 seeds could be eliminated from the title right from the start.

Mataafa is a Junior. Lunas bring 10 and are in the mix with 5 to 6 other teams. It ain't easy bringing 14 weights in any league. The girls are bringing 11 with 6 #1 seeds. MIL, 9 schools and just 2 spots. The semi finals were hard fought yesterday with dreams on the line.

Maui is in the driver seat, its not IF tne real question is by how much.

Maui out manuvered everyone in the seeding and will have the Oahu top dogs battle it out amongst each other and walk to the finals! Great job Maui understanding how the seedings work and that you were the old dogs and have positioned your team for a title run.

Out coached before the tourney! nice

They got the best draw they could have hoped for at 132. No OIA teams through the quarters. Other than that, I see they might have a few problems. Finalists predictions?

Boys:
106: Pagurayan over Cabanban
113: Kato over Santos
120: Terukina over Ng
126: Ilabon over Ruiz
132: Diamond over Gallarde. . .this weight class is nuts
138: Diamond over Campos
145: Pascua over Chandler
152: Corbett over Dominique
160: Naosusuga over Yoshikawa
170: Rosen over Lono
182: Hoshino over Lee
195: Tokioka over Hazuka
220: Sullivan over Fuamatu
285: Ludiazo over Mowat

Campbell with 4 finalists, Punahou with 1, Lahainaluna with 2, Kamehameha(Kapalama) with 3, Mililani with 3, Iolani with 2, Pearl City with 2, Pac-5 with 2, Kapolei with 2.

Looks like Campbell should place 6-8 wrestlers. Lahainaluna, Punahou, and Kapolei the same. Moanalua possibly could as well. This should be a pretty tight tournament. Good luck to all of the competitors!
