In the second game of the opening day, Kinston (N.C.) leads Tsinghua (Beijing) 34-22 at the half.

Kinston is a sleeper, a first-time visitor to the ‘Iolani Classic. Four of the five starters are seniors, and that starting unit is pretty tall — 6-foot-2 to 6-7.

Final game of the night (and the opening round): Yates (Houston, Texas) 87, Kamehameha 60

They’re big, bad (as in really good) and a force of nature from Texas.

Old school scoring frenzy: Yates, Lutheran

Got the abacus* out and did the math. There are some seriously interesting numbers behind Yates’ 95-88 win over Lutheran from last night’s thrilling quarterfinal at the ‘Iolani Classic.

Updates

Semifinal: Yates (Houston, Texas) 88, Columbia (Decatur, Ga.) 66
Semifinal: Neumann-Goretti (Pa.) 72, Montrose Christian (Md.) 65

NG is tough defensively and has a nice mix of guards ... Yates is pure 32 minutes of hell ... Joseph Young has emerged as the finest performer in the tourney so far. Providence is getting a heck of a point guard. Thirty points tonight (seven 3-pointers).

Tomorrow is going to be fun. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Hey Paul,

What's up with Kahuku? The scores look terrible, considering the fact that they made it to the State Championship game last year.

:fart:

No worries, 95 Boyz. Schwenke didn't play and they're still getting meshed together without a lot of practice time. Plus, those daily bus rides from Kahuku (five in six days!) didn't help the legs.

They've got Nehoa Akina and some solid guard play coming. When Kona returns (already committed to BYU football, so no trips, right?), they'll get it together. Plus, they faced some solid competition at the Classic.

One thing for sure, though: they'll miss Jray Galeai. Hardly a player like him anywhere in Hawaii right now ...

kahuku is shetty this year cause only the coaches son is allowed to shoot the ball just like last year, word is out that kona does'nt want to play basketball this year and just wants to get ready for college football but the coach went to his house and cry to his parents. \:D/  \:D/
