n0t1but2 needs to work harder at work, not1but2 needs to work harder at school. crosscartography1O1 needs to stop drinking what he distilled. crosscartography101 needs another furlough day to catch up grading papers.

crosscartography101 isn't supposed to be working on furlough, it's like crossing the picket line. If schools are still able to function with furlough days, they might make it permanent, just like they did with getting rid of the rest day in between the State Track trials and finals, during the strike year.

I don't really know what the guys before me are getting at so I'll ignore them.
What a great state meet! I can't believe Punahou won, beating an excellent Mililani team, whose first three went 3-4-5, when Punahou ran zero seniors and one junior. Quite the underclassmen (underclasswomen?) performance! Can't wait to see how good they could be next year! I looked at pictures and Elli Brady ran a really smart race, sitting behind Grossman and Greenwell until she made her third mile move. Was it the performance of the day? Not in my opinion. Punahou's 4 and 5, Jaime Durso and Kacie Won, really stepped it up to overcome the dominating performance of Mililani's top 3 and secure the victory by outrunning Mililani's 4 and 5 by a good enough margin.
On the boys side, the top 5 were underclassmen along with 14 of the top 20. Next year should be even more competitive as the younger runners develop. It should make for an epic showdown. Looking at the photos, Margarito Martinez should be the favorite. What a dominant race! Pretty much a gun-to-tape win for him. I'd also like to give props to Pierce Murphy, who looks like he sat in second the entire race, and, despite being fairly far back from Margarito, still maintained a sizable lead over the pack behind. Also, Jordan Thibodeau was as far back as 12th (as far as I can tell) for much of the race, before kicking it in and running tough to take third. Kamehameha also won by about 30 points, but I feel they weren't as dominant as I expected. However, a win is a win, congrats to them. Finally, thanks to the top 5 and Punahou boys for really stepping it up to make my predictions correct :D
Anyways, what a fantastic season. I'm already ready for track. Is it too early to start a forum on that?

800runner,
totally agree with you! it was an awesome season ending with a great race. A close one between Punahou and Mililani. Congratulations to both!

I guess next year we will just have to open a bigger can of whoopass! ;) gonna miss you guys!

Anyone care to venture predictions for next year? Leilehua? Kamehameha? Mililani? Punahou? Seabury? Hawaii Prep? Iolani?
What about track? Anyone?

Well looking only at returnees here are the breakdowns of teams:
Boys:
Kamehameha- 3 returnees/numbers 1, 4, and 7 on their team/3rd, 22nd, 51st overall
Punahou-2/1 and 6/5th and 73rd
Iolani-4/1, 2, 3, 6/4th, 9th, 20th, 68th
Maui- 5/1, 2, 5, 6, 7/8th, 11th, 54th, 84th, 142nd
Leilehua-5/1, 2, 3, 5, 6 /1st, 28th, 31st, 86th, 103rd
Honokaa- 7/all/14th, 32nd, 43rd, 88th, 118th, 137th, 154th
Pearl City also brings back 5

JV squads:
I don't know anything about the last 4's JV squads, but since they do return enough to score, I will assume these runners will be their scorers
Kamehameha brings up the top 3 ILH JV runners, Punahou brings up 3 from the top 10, Iolani brings up 2 from the top 10 (correct me if you know otherwise)

Also, with more sophomores (and a couple of freshmen), the last 4 I believe have more room to grow. Leilehua could also be both positively or negatively affected with their many military transfers. However, at this point in time, I think the favorites are the returning top 3, Kamehameha, Punahou, and Iolani (not necessarily in that order). As you can see with the returning runners from the other schools, they all lack a returning 5th runner. I know that Kamehameha, Punahou, and Iolani also lack a few runners with state experience, but their final runner at states were all fairly significantly higher (maybe excluding Leilehua) than the others and I know that their varsity squads were not significantly different in terms of quality. All of their JV runners who could fill in the final spot run within 15-30 seconds of their last varsity (based on ILH champs and other season times).
Consider the 3 ILH teams the favorites... for now. But it is too early to tell. What if people move here/away? Injuries? Some unheard of potential medal-winning upcoming freshman (i.e. Schaerer of Punahou who his team owes their trophy to or Carvalho of Mililani and Pearson of Baldwin running as the top runners on their nonscoring teams)? I could see any of the other 4 making legitimate pushes at the title with their sheer number of returnees and room to grow.

I won't go as in-depth into girls because I don't follow it as closely, but on a superficial level I see Punahou repeating. They return ALL of their runners. These underclassmen girls beat out their senior captains (one, a state medalist) for the 7 spots. Barring injury to the top three of Brady/Mann/Brand, with Jenkins of Mililani allegedly leaving and Keith graduating, Punahou should run away with the title.

Um...Jenkins didn't "allegedly" move, she DID move, to Nebraska, where she's been training in the deep snow since December! Mililani will just need their athletes and coaching staff to step up of they want to remain competitive at the state level!

No I didn't mean it in a bad way at all. I just didn't want to assume the rumor was true since I hadn't heard of it before. It was like the 19-year old Martinez rumor at the beginning of this thread. I didn't want to assume anything that could be untrue. So "allegedly" covers me in case I am wrong.

And with track starting up, should we start a new thread for track?
