I assume this is the same Una Latu who helped the homeless get to live in the Kakaako Waterfront Warehouse when they got kicked out of Aala and Ala Moana Parks.

The Latu's are related, but it is not the same Latu that helped the homeless. Last that I heard, Una just finished playing recently on the mainland and moved back home.

1999....what a great year for Hawaii high school football! That was when we had teams (St. Louis) that could compete with any of the top prep football teams in the nation. Nowadays, it would be a very long shot for any of our high school teams to beat one of the nations Super 25. Hawaii high school football was on such a high level!

Look at the size of the All-State team. That's what I'm talkin about! I noticed Jonathan Mapu made HR as a sophmore.

I wonder if we will ever have a team/teams from Hawaii that could legitimately compete with the Cincinatti St. Xavier's, Santa Ana Mater Dei's, Tulsa Union's, or Pittsburgh Central Catholic's of the high school football world. Gosh...Hawaii high school football at one time was at such a great level.

I've heard many great things about the '77 Puns. Classic team, beat the odds, ran into a buzzsaw of a Waianae team. Tuinei (may his soul RIP) and Gabriel went on to great things. That was Punahou's last great team before Jason Ching, Donny Utu, and Jimmy Bennett suited up.

That 1982 team was loaded! Al Noga, Joe Onosai, Todd schmidt (who went on to play for Colorado State), Richard Hosoda (who was the all time leader in receptions in a season at that time). . . ..

Whoa, that was a good year for Hawaii talent.
Lakei Heimuli was unstoppable. Thor Salanoa only made second team?? :o
Al Noga and Schmitt were animals.

Anyone with All-State pic of NIKO NOGA? Now that was a BEAST.

That's because some of them were, all-state or not. The age restrictions (18 years, 6 months or younger) were applied only after the state tournament was organized.
