I wrote him off, but happy he ultimately kept his word. It is hard to leave home and set out on your own path, so I can appreciate the challenge of the hometown school giving a late offer. #buildingalegitDL

Here's what happened. When Mermea decomitted on Twitter Tuesday night, he went dark and UH couldn't get in touch with him. But Wednesday morning Mermea contacted UH and SDSU. He told both Rolo and Rocky Long to tell him in 5 minutes why he should go to their school. After listening to them, he made his decision.

I think Mermea is the real deal.
I'm glad we won this battle and I don't think he'll regret his final decision.

No surprise, it's been in the making for months.

Players always transfer from every program. It's a player's personal prerogative & decision. Doesn't mean that it has anything to do with the coaching staff.

For me personally, its trite to say it's a player's prerogative and decision to leave as it goes without saying. Everybody is hyped up about the three star recruits that UH recruited this year but we just lost two three star recruits we lost last year in Kipper and Mermea. When you quit and move on to better pastures its because of the organization or much greener pastures. If Hawaii is going to be a revolving door why get excited about who's recruited?
