A quick exist to Slater's relationship with Quiksilver? Hmmm, the timing seems kind of off since Slater is been very competitive in recent tour meets..

I guess he is thinking about the future and wanting to have his own line of stuff to sell before his fame fades.

11 time world champ and he's isn't the highest paid surfer in the world.
In fact he isn't even the highest paid by QuikSilver according to this article (Note: Dane Reynolds is sponsored by Quik)

The fact that he’s the world’s greatest surfer to ever live, but isn’t the highest paid surfer in the world right now (John John Florence and Dane Reynolds both mint more than him), is said to be a point of contention.

Pro surfers get paid in a variety of ways. Slater is a multi millionaire just from contest winnings. He gets everything paid for him by sponsors and he gets paid for being in movies and promoting commercial products. I don't think he wants Quicksilver to pay him more he wants to break off and do his own thing and not be under Quicksilvers contract.
