4* QB Brandon Dawkins transferring to Illinois

Post by BigWave96744 »

*** Updated 4/11/18 ***

Ok this dude is getting offers from everyone, but I'm wondering if Norm should show some interest in Brandon Dawkins, 6'4" Junior Pro Style QB out of Oak Christian School.

Maybe if things don't work out in his first college of choice, he'll remember Norm, like Taylor Graham did.
Oaks Christian can't help but smile along with QB Brandon Dawkins

Hawaii native Brandon Dawkins' laid-back island attitude belies a maturity that has helped lead the Lions to a 4-0 record so far.

September 20, 2012 | Eric Sondheimer

If someone discovers quarterback Brandon Dawkins not smiling, please take a photo to prove it. Whether in the huddle, on the sideline or in the locker room, Dawkins is the coolest, most laid-back teenager not named Justin Bieber. He's focused and intense in his own way, and a lot has to do with being born and raised in Hawaii until he was 8.
.
.
.
"It's the Hawaii style," he said. "Everyone is always smiling. You can't frown on the islands."

He said his older brother "was putting me in the water before I knew how to walk."

Dawkins learned to surf, and being able to ride a wave only adds to his coolness factor.

"It's my getaway place," he said. "I can put the whole world aside."

Oaks Christian could give UH a game. Yeah, I'm being facetious but they do have a great program. It seem they get 7-8 D1 scholi offers a year there.

players with ties to hawaii are more apt to want to play for UH. Nate Ilaoa went to UH because his military family was stationed here.

the amount of very good football players without ties to hawaii that play for UH is small. gary allen, raphael cherry, walter murray, jeff sydner, davone bess, adam leonard, among others. the list is not to long. bess was in jail and leonard blew out his knee. I'm pretty sure all the polynesians have some kind of family tie to hawaii.

Yyyyup, I was making fun of the fact that we offered 4 and 5 stars en masse.

I like. Reminds me of Cam Newton in his mechanics. Doubt we can land him though with all those other schools interested in him.

Once recruited by Hawaii, will Rolo give him a look?
Quarterback Brandon Dawkins to leave Arizona Wildcats as graduate transfer
By Michael Lev Arizona Daily Star
Updated 2 hrs ago

Arizona Wildcats quarterback Brandon Dawkins announced Thursday evening that he will transfer after graduating in May.

This was not an unexpected development. Dawkins told the Star in December that he wasn’t sure about his future beyond the 2017 season. Dawkins started for most of 2016 and the beginning of ’17 before losing the job to Khalil Tate, who led the Wildcats on a four-game winning streak and set several QB rushing records.

Tate is entering his junior year. Barring an injury, he will be Arizona’s starter for at least one more season. Dawkins could have stayed and served as the No. 2 QB. Instead, he’s transferring. As a grad transfer, he can play immediately for another FBS school.

Dawkins appeared in 22 games, passing for 2,418 yards with 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He rushed for 1,582 yards and 20 TDs. Dawkins ran for 944 yards and 10 scores in 2016.

“The past four years have been nothing short of phenomenal,” Dawkins said via Twitter. “I would like to thank the U of A for the chance to not only play the sport I love, but have the opportunity to get my degree.”

Dawkins’ position coach throughout his UA career, Rod Smith, is now the offensive coordinator at Illinois. Another ex-Wildcats assistant, Calvin Magee, is the offensive coordinator at New Mexico. Those are two possible destinations for Dawkins, along with Hawaii, where Dawkins was born.

Intriguing. But can he pick up the run and shoot in so short a time?

He looks like a better runner than passer. Probably won't pick up th route progessions any better than our two freshmen. Pass.
