Those familiar with the saying “too good to be true” can probably relate to the evaluation some NFL teams had for quarterback
Marcus Mariota.
According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich says he was told by an NFL coach and GM before the NFL
draft that Mariota not having any red flags was a concern.

DISPLAY ILLUSTRATES FOUNDATION OF MARIOTA'S HEISMAN RUN
By Rob Moseley

August 4, 2015
Anyone who watched him quarterback Oregon the last three years knows that the story of Marcus Mariota goes well beyond a single trophy.
Mariota’s Heisman Trophy honor for the 2014 season is the greatest individual award an Oregon football player has won. But his legacy goes
beyond the statue, from the teammates he led, to the young people he inspired, to the example he set as a public figure.
All of that and more was incorporated into the Heisman Trophy display unveiled Tuesday in the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex. Designed by Nike and
constructed in the HDC’s public lobby, the display illustrates the foundation on which Mariota’s Heisman run was built, including family, his home
state of Hawaii and his support system with the Ducks.

With anticipation high and expectations even higher, Marcus Mariota makes his NFL preseason
debut for the Titans on Friday night in Atlanta.
Savor it, Titans fans. This could be a defining moment for a franchise in desperate need of a
savior at quarterback.
Don’t blink. For all the attention focused on Mariota, the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner and the
No. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft, his professional coming-out party at the Georgia Dome figures
to be little more than a cameo appearance.

Re: *** Official Marcus Mariota Thread ***
Overall Marcus did okay today. That int, was more a miscommunication between Marcus and Sankey rather than Marcus making a bad throw or read. His fumble however could have been avoided had he stepped up into the pocket but its part of the learning process as a rookie qb. Even despite that adversity marcus came back and responded with a nice td drive. Made some nice throws, one in particular that stood out was that lead pass on a wheel route. Looking forward to seeing him progress!

I was more impressed on that 3rd down conversion laser pass in between two defenders.reignjah11 wrote:Overall Marcus did okay today. Jon Gruden calls Marcus Mariota a ‘double-edged sword’
David Kenyon
September 2, 2015
The Tennessee Titans drafted dual-threat quarterback Marcus Mariota second overall in the 2015 NFL draft, but although he’s performed
well through three preseason games, the team hasn’t seen all the traits it expected.
Nevertheless, according to Jim Wyatt of the team’s official site, Super Bowl-winning coach and ESPN analyst Jon Gruden believes Mariota’s
running ability makes him a lethal weapon. Gruden said:

Gruden may say Mariota's running ability makes him a lethal weapon, but it's his Tennessee coach telling him not to run. He hasn't run at all in the preseason, the coach is not running any plays for him to run.
And he's taking most snaps under center. I don't know if Wisenhunt is innovative enough to be creative with the plays. we'll see.

Whis has called a couple designed running plays this preseason. I'm sure there are more of it in the offense which will come out as the regular season progresses. Coaches usually call "vanilla" offenses and defenses plays in the preseason.anthoang wrote:Gruden may say Mariota's running ability makes him a lethal weapon, but it's his Tennessee coach telling him not to run.
