Re: 2011 High School track and field
8 of the 11 boys entered in the 1500 that didn't run, ended up competing in another event, either the 800 or the 3000, only 3 entries that didn't run the 1500 were complete no-shows at the trials. In the distance events, most of the athletes/coaches have the "wait and see" attitude when de...

Re: 2011 High School track and field
By the same argument, why doesn't preseason Track & Field get coverage on the television news? OC 16 shows HS football games why not track? ...or swimming? ...air riflery? ...soft tennis? Television stations and newspapers have only a finite amount of resources to cover enough of the popular spo...

Re: 2011 High School track and field
Hirsch is listed in the 16-19 yr old age group, winning that division in the 2010 Maui Marathon with 3:24, 6th female finisher overall. Maui News states "Aspen Hirsch, a 17-year-old Kihei Charter School student, runs en route to finishing sixth overall " She has also been swimming in high ...

Re: 2011 High School track and field
You figure the all should be capable doing the 15 and 3K, since both distances combined are shorter than the 3 miles they run in XC. True that they have trials the day before, but according to the rules, there will only be 2 heats, so they only have run hard enough to make top 4, with the top seeds ...

Re: 2010 Cross Country
Good job to all the concerned XC athletes, coaches, parents, spectators and fans! Last year we had 19 pages of posts, this year we have 18 (19 now, when you include this post), which is a lot more than any other of the high school sports topics!

Re: 2010 Cross Country
I think welsh meant how many runners consistently medal at states throughout their hs xc career. There may be more if you count the medals the first place team members receive.

Re: 2010 Cross Country
The 14:58.60 that Pierce Murphy ran is a spectacular time for this point of the season, with no one to push him but himself. The results say the meet, KIF Meet #3, was hosted at Island School, but do we know if it was the same course that they used at States last year? If that's the case, the Murphy...

Re: 2010 Cross Country
In all fairness, todaresq's responses were partly influenced by the questions posed by nogutsnoglory. Maui may seem to all of a sudden have a bunch of spectatular athletes, those of us who have been involved in the sport of cross country and track for a while, know that some perceived successes happ...

Re: 2010 Cross Country
I think the emphasis on teams rather than individuals is dependent on the type of program a coach runs. Although individual performances may outshine the team performances at the meets, most of the work that goes into those performances throughout the season, is done by training as a team. At practi...

Re: 2010 Cross Country
I have no problem with a high school athlete being 19 yrs old during the season, as long as it is within the rules set by the state and the league, and as long as there was no intention to purposely circumvent the rules by the parties involved. A lot of military student-athletes have this dilemma wh...

Re: Cross Country 2009
2LeftFeet - the map for the state course can be a bit confusing but if you've been there and hopefully the layout of the terrain is still the same, then the gap between the start/finish area and field across from there (green arrow section) is a ditch. The very same ditch that everyone had to hop a...
