Re: track and field

I guess it all depends on the philosophy of the coach, but we've always coached the team concept for the track TEAM. Whenever possible we would do our best to put together the best team possible, since we train and practice as a team, we expect our athletes to compete and make sacrifices for the tea...

Re: track and field

On Oahu the perception is that private schools "recruit" talented athletes away from the public schools, because they are able to offer academic scholarships worth thousands of dollars. Public schools like Baldwin may not be able to offer much except the chance to be on a winning team. The...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

Hosting resposibilities are assigned to leagues and not teams, although within the league they can assign a specific team that duty, but as far as advantages, Oahu has 2 leagues, so they host twice as much, and KIF doesn't host, so they will not have the same advantage as other leagues.

Re: 2011 High School track and field

The idea of an alternates list from the entries was kicked around in a few of the track evaluation meetings, and as I recall, one of the arguments against it was that it was an unfair advantage to the local host league(s). If the meet was on Oahu, there wouldn't be any problem finding available repl...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

How about this interesting fact: Under the old scoring system, where only up to 5th place is scored, and individual events were scored 1st - 6pts, 2nd - 4pts, 3rd - 3pts, 4th - 2pts, 5th - 1pts and relays were scored 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 (5th place), the Girls Team score would have been Punahou - 42, Seab...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

...a lot of posts about impending rain, which never came to fruition. I guess everyone is still wary about the 2004 State Championships at War Memorial Stadium, "The Monsoon on Maui", where Kamehameha lost the boys team title because of the cancellation of some events.

Re: 2011 High School track and field

I agree, that there have been great performances this year, driving the level of competition up beyond the consideration standards set for qualifying for States. But this is also because the Consideration Standard formula, as described in the State Coaches Info Packet (http://www.sportshigh.com/file...

...or some as yet unknown runner from the freshmen ranks or transferring from out-of-state. Only results from the first few meets of the season will give us a peek at the part of the state picture. I can't wait for the season to start!

Re: 2010 Cross Country

I hope those athletes who fortunate enough to compete at the State meet,
Look at the time, guys,
when you cross that finish line, and take the time to appreciate all those who have contributed to the sport of cross country this season.

Re: 2010 Cross Country

The Leilehua Time trial was done old-school, with stopwatches and numbered finish line cards, so don't expect instantaneous results! The Mililani site (http://milhsxc.com) mentions the meet and has some pictures and probably will have some videos later today (or at http://www.youtube.com/milhstrack)...

Re: Track and Field 2010

Also, if you're talking about great all around sprinters, Koldene Walsh of Leilehua practically single-handedly won the State Championship in 1983 winning the 100m, 200m, Long Jump and anchored the 4x100m relay and also setting records in those events at the time, with a Leilehua team of only six at...

Re: Track and Field 2010

Didn't Adrian Murrell (Leilehua 1989) have a wind-aided 10.4? Also if you looking at the fastest 100m in Hawaii, in 1994 there was this World's Fastest Athlete competition being filmed in Hawaii, where they had the fastest athletes from Track, Football and Baseball (4 from each sport) compete in 3 d...

Re: Cross Country 2009

Um...Jenkins didn't "allegedly" move, she DID move, to Nebraska, where she's been training in the deep snow since December! Mililani will just need their athletes and coaching staff to step up of they want to remain competitive at the state level!

Re: Cross Country 2009

Anyone care to venture predictions for next year? Leilehua? Kamehameha? Mililani? Punahou? Seabury? Hawaii Prep? Iolani?
What about track? Anyone?
