Re: 2011 High School Cross Country

I do not believe nogutsnoglory represents the viewpoints of Seabury coaches or athletes. Misguided statements made by nogutsnoglory in this forum i.e. "As Seabury says Puna Who" are fabrications that have no basis in reality. Seabury does not focus or obsess about Punahou. Punahou has a gr...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

Regarding the alternates list and a possible unfair "advantage" to the host team, it is my view that any "advantage" gained would likely be negligible. Because the meets move each year, that advantage would not be for the same host team every year. I think having only 15 kids rac...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

I would like to use the boys 1500 as an illustration of how important it is that we put our heads together to improve the current method of determining who gets to participate in a state meet. In the 1500 prelims there were only 15 entries. That means there were 11 scratches for any number of reason...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

It is unfortunate that there are always a few personalities who find a reason to be critical and negative. The Seabury Hall girls had a near perfect night. Most coaches can only dream of such a moment. It's always so easy to second guess and play the "what if" hand. If Kailea had run the 1...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

I greatly appreciate Bob's compiling of the "Top 20 Times/Marks for the 2011 season. In reviewing the lists, a few questions come to mind. Is the intention to list the best times for each runner and therefore have 20 different runners on the list or is to list by times only and credit any runne...

Re: 2011 High School track and field

Many of our local newpapers have limited resources to report on the myriad of athletic events occurring on any given day. A possible option to improve the visibility of high school track and field is to have someone(s) at a meet taking photos and then submitting to the local paper with an attached, ...

Re: 2010 Cross Country

Was the ILH and OIA race run this past weekend at CORP the same course that the kids will be running on Thursday at the State Meet?

Also, is the distance 3 miles and is the course considered to be a fast one?

Re: Cross Country 2009

I disagree with XCfan. The kids who are being left out of the State Championship race are very relevant to the big picture and to the health of the sport. Those kids have worked hard and deserve the chance to be a part of an event that could positively help to shape the rest of their lives. Yes, the...

Re: Cross Country 2009

On Maui, public high schools would have more competitive running programs if there were good middle school programs feeding them with young runners. As an example, I don't think Kalama or Iao Valley intermediate has a program. With the exception of large private schools like Punahou, public schools ...

Re: Cross Country 2009

Seabury Hall's, Hailey Grossman is the one to beat this year. She is a two time MIL Cross Country Champion and a two time state 3000 meter champion. I saw her first race this weekend and she looked great, taking first place by more than a minute. Jenna Wong and Tia Greenwell will probably be Hailey'...
