Re: Cross Country 2009

I`d like to pick an upset winner in the girls race. Gabriella Jennings from Mililani has the closing speed to pull the upset if she doesn`t let the leader(s) get too much of a gap on her. The flat fast course should help her maintain contact. She earned a track medal in the 1500 as a freshman that s...

Re: Cross Country 2009

My point was that a good coach is better able to have his athletes peak at the optimum time, the State meet. So, given the same athletes a good coach will have more success at the State meet than a less knowledgable/skillful one. All the talent, hard work and dedication can be diminished or enhanced...

Re: Cross Country 2009

800 runner, I think your rankings are fairly accurate based on what's happened so far. It should come down to who can peak for the State meet and a lot of that comes down to the coaching. I think one reason the ILH has been so dominant in the past is due to superior coaching, which has resulted in s...

Re: Cross Country 2009

Like everyone else I am dissapointed in the cuts to the number of runners that will be allowed to participate in the State Championships. I agree that for many runners it is a great achievement to qualify for 'States' and taking this away from 40 boys and 40 girls is a shame. I was under the impress...

Re: Cross Country 2009

It's unfortunate that there will be less student athletes able to participate in the State Championships this year. However, the athletes being left out are not really relevant to the competitive side of the event. The State meet is supposed to be for the top athletes and to crown champions, earned ...

Re: Cross Country 2009

Actually Martinez did run side by side with Murphy at the Campbell meet and he dropped him rather easily and won by a substantial margin. Also, I think that Grossman looked beatable at todays meet even though she won. There were some top girls that were ill and or nursing injuries. It looks like Pun...

Re: Cross Country 2009

The Iolani Invitational course at Kualoa has in the past been hazardous to some of the Hawaii runners. I think this is due to the fact that most of our CC courses are not that techinical(rugged) and the runners do not have much practice running on rough trails. It sounds like they did adjust the cou...

Re: Cross Country 2009

Looks like the Punahou girls reloaded after losing several seniors. The Kaiser meet should be a good preview of who the top teams and individuals are on Oahu as the OIA and ILH should both be represented. I'm curious about the mystery winner form Punahou???

Re: Cross Country 2009

Watched the OIA meet at Mililani, Martinez had another dominating performance and looks to be the frontrunner for now. The Leilehua boys team also looked much stronger this week. The Mililani girls continue to impress and their top three look like top ten State Championship contenders. I believe Jen...

OIA update

Watched the OIA meet at Mililani, Martinez had another dominating performance and looks to be the frontrunner for now. The Leilehua team also looked stronger this week. The Mililani girls continue to impress, and may have three top ten contenders for States. I believe Jenkins winning time is the fas...

Re: Cross Country 2009

To 800 runner As far as I know the Campbell course is a measured 3 miles, but it is very flat. To give you an idea of how impressive the boys times were you have to compare to last years Campbell meet held on the identical course. The winner was from a mainland school and he won in 16:45. Martinez w...

Re: Cross Country 2009

To XCfun, I wouldn't count out the top OIA runners this year. At the Campbell Invitational Mililani had three girls in the top ten and a Radford girl was 4th overall. Two top California teams were at the meet and these girls ran very well in higher level competition than anything to be found in Hawa...

Re: Cross Country 2009

It's great to have this forum for all of us who enjoy the sport of cross country. I appreciate the input of United Front and his top runners, top teams lists. As far as the girls top ten list goes, I know there are at least two more Mililani runners that belong in the top 10 and a runner from both R...
