Re: MBB 2020 Recruiting
I think Villa will get the nod over Bayles early in the season. But I think eventually, probably by conference season next season, Bayles will be the backup to Buggs. And I don't think that's a knock on Villa, I think he's good and he'll be good for UH. But I don't ever see him being a starting PG ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
Go Punahou - I don’t think carnival had anything to do with their loss. The carnival started today and the game was played yesterday. I just don’t think they were as good as previous years. Without them making the state tournament, this made me wonder when was the last time either Punahou and Iolan...

Re: MBB 2020 Recruiting
I notice a lot of people overlooking Jessiya Villa as a pg contender in the post-Buggs era. Villa should have the edge next year in regards to knowing the offense/defense over any incoming guards next season.

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
St. Louis has taken out top seeded ILH teams before in the ILH tournament in year's past. They've played almost every team close enough to be competitive and are capable this year of sending any of the top 3 ILH teams home if they play well enough. That is the gauntlet that is the ILH.

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
The first year Akana took over Kahuku, he inherited the team midway through the season and nearly took them to the finals if not for a terrible officiating call that awarded Punahou a timeout when they clearly didn't call it during a crucial time of the game with seconds left. I think it was a situa...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
Robbie Sauvao back at Kahuku. After beating Moanalua and Kalaheo, Red Raiders look to move up at least to #5. Right now Akana has the team running more efficient. Naz is right If Akana was coaching a ILH team, with his recruiting ability and coaching, nothing impossible. He has inside track of the ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
@teamhawaii: Thanks for the clarifications. I was wondering why Akana got into that skirmish with Shimamoto. If the refs were juicing Akana, why would he take it out on Shimamoto? You'd think he'd go after the refs instead. Unless Shimamoto did something to make him snap. In that video, Akana didn'...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
@Naz: Well, I guess I'd agree that Akana is a good coach, but perhaps he shouldn't be so aggressive towards other coaches during a game, that he ends-up on s**t lists. At the same time, refs need to call a fair game. Don't nitpick on one school, and let the other school slide. Isn't Akana a Kahuku ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
@Naz: Well, looks like Akana is on the s**t list. That's too bad; it's probably costing the Kahuku basketball team. I mean, if schools are blacklisting the team because of the coach, well, that sucks. I think quite the contrary. Akana going to Kahuku was one of the best things that happened to the ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
@teamhawaii: Oh. I had watched the video before my last post, and saw there was some kind of commotion. Didn't know it involved the coaches. I saw one of the Kahuku players apologizing for something to one of the refs. Well, if it involves Coach Akana, then, yeah, I guess I could understand Iolani ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
Watch the video. It has nothing to do with the fans but more so beef with Akana & the Iolani Coach That was kind of our point. We felt that the committee that invites the local schools didn't care too much for Akana. I have to believe Shimamoto is heavily influential in that area. Of course, th...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
It wasn’t the players but more so the fans. Heard Iolani higher ups didn’t like when Kahuku fans did the “Tomahawk Chop” during their games and so forth. Wouldn’t doubt Iolani high makamaka attitude played a part of them not inviting Kahuku since. This must not have helped Kahuku's invitation prosp...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
If people bother to follow Iolani's boys' team, here is what they'll say: "Doc Mugiishi ain't walking through that door." Doc Mugiishi wouldn't be able to do jack with this current 'Iolani team. Ryan Hirata in his first season took over a very young and inexperienced squad that will proba...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
I watched the first round games for Moanalua and Damien. Neither Geremy Robinson Jr. nor Bryce Forbes look like D2 prospects let alone D1 prospects who have offers from the schools they claim they do (Wichita State and Georgetown!!!). They were both non-existent. To me, the 'Iolani Classic is where ...

Re: Boys' and Girls' Basketball '19-'20
Crazy to think, that the Iolani Classic Committee hasn't invited Kahuku since that run. Does anyone know the exact reason, they haven't invited them back since? I heard they didn't like how Kahuku acted during that impressive run in 2016. Feels like they were just salty that Kahuku showed up Iolani...
