Fifth-ranked Florida broke open a scoreless game with four second-quarter touchdowns today, leading the Gators to a 56-10 victory over visiting Hawaii in the season-opening college football game for both teams.

The Gators, who scored on three returns (two interceptions and one punt) poured it on after halftime, with 28 more points in the third quarter.

“I have no excuses,” said Greg McMackin, after his debut game as UH coach. “We were outplayed in every phase. I give them full credit. I do believe we made some crucial mistakes.”
