I was at practice today. After practice Coach Mack walked along side Blaze Soares while he did bear crawls from the 50 yard line. Then he performed rolls back. Blaze was totally exhausted and I’m not sure if he finished. Anybody know if Blaze did something to deserve that?

uhwarriors23 (in response to question above) Cal Lee was on the sports animals show about 20 minutes ago. He confirmed that Blaze was not being punished. Blaze asked the coaches to have him do extra drills to make sure he’s ready for Florida. Cal Lee is all for that. He said he wants the Warriors to go down there to Florida more physically fit than the Gators.

Anyway, practice at Manoa was different to say the least:
1) Coach lined them up face to face and talked to the entire team. When he was done, the whole team applauded and did their sprints. It’s a totally different atmosphere.
2) Coach Gerke looks like and acts like Dennis McKnight. He yells “hurry up, Get on the line!” all the time and is loud. Just like Coach McKnight.
3) Coach Stutz is more assertive than I thought he would be so that was very good….(more)

My impressions from practice:

The starting O-line for now looks to be Kia, Bear, Estes, Lafu, Steiny. It appears that Letuli was the first to rotate in at LT with Hisatake third. This group was at the far end of the field and I was too lazy to walk down as they seemed to be mostly working on technique drills. I was a little concerned when the team ran sprints at the end of practice because Bear, Hisatake and Ginlack seemed to be laboring pretty hard.

I didn’t really focus on the passing drills so I can’t really comment individually on the QBs or receivers. I will say, though, that there were a lot more dropped balls than we’re used to seeing. At one point Mack got so ticked off, he interrupted the drill to berate the receivers for all the drops, telling them to “start acting like D1 players” and to “catch the ball” because he was tired of seeing so many balls hit the turf. Gotta add that there were some very nice catches, including a nice one by Pilares towards the end of practice…(more)

Some thoughts and observations from Tuesday’s practice:

If Inoke Funaki does win the starting job, I hope they take advantage of his mobility.

Today’s practice was mostly drills within each position group. When the offense practiced as a unit and when defense practiced as a unit, they did so only against the scouts.

Steele Jantz and Shane Austin took turns as the scout team QB.

Jameel Dowling was not at practice today. JoPierre Davis took his place.

The first team defensive tackles this morning were Fale Laeli and Keala Watson. They were backed-up by Rocky Savaiigaea and Josh Leonard…(more)

Made it down this morning for the first time and enjoyed the practice. I’m no expert but these are some of my observations.

I will be surprised if anyone beats out Bain, Washington, and Salas. There is just a difference in the way these guys catch the ball with their hands. However, our receiving corp is very deep so no worries there.

Mana Silva is an athlete! No surprise if he holds off all challengers.

Pai Pai is one big Frosh. Maybe not this year, but he WILL be an impact player for this team…(more)

Thank you everyone!
