All poly camp day 1:

It was a beautiful day at Kapiolani Park, the emotion and excitement was pedal to da metal! Kenny Patton, Chad Owens and all of the other amazing coaches who generously gave back to Hawaii were the catalyst to this grand event. The coaches did a great job communicating, mentoring and teaching the kids vital skills and life lessons. You could tell that they were having the time of their lives and the coach’s message was clearly getting through to them.

The morning sessions ended with scimmages by age groups and this looked to be the highlight of the day for the kids. For the two lower age groups it was shirts vs. skins and the competitive juices were flowing with huge smiles on their faces. The oldest group did an offense vs. defense scrimmage and the intensity was fierce. There were a few good licks and the offense came up with more then a few long gains.

At 4:00 PM the All Poly Camp went into overdrive with an all star coaching staff. Listening to all of the coaches talk and inspire the kids was truly a privilege. Their ability to connect and get their message to hit home was inspirational. After the introductions and warm ups the kids went to stations by positions. A lot of instruction was given and the kids hit the field hard and participated with enthusiasm. Tomorrow will be full pads so the kids will be able to leave it all on the field.

I took almost 400 photos on day 1 and they should be up by the end of the week. Great camp so far and thank you again Linda for inviting SportsHawaii.com

Aloha Ohana,
It’s that time of the year when we begin to get to know the 2009 Warriors.
This year I will start with the GrayShirts / True Freshman / Transfers / and Potential Walkons that have already reported in the Spring.

Then I will go to the RS Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
The last group will be the incoming Freshman and JC Transfers (once they have enrolled in school).

A majority of the info will be gotten from the UH Website, Stephen Tsai, Leila Wai, Ferd Lewis (Honolulu Advertiser & Warrior Beat), Dave Reardon, Jason Kaneshiro, and Paul Honda (Star Bulletin) and the awesome SPORTSBOW.

Finally thanks to photographers from the Advertiser, Star Bulletin, IslandSportsMedia, Irse, Rainbows’ PBase site, Scott, Ubercow, UHWarriors, and many others who have taken time to photograph our Warriors.

For Immediate Release: June 15, 2009

JUST WIN FOOTBALL CAMP HOLDS 1st COACHES CLINIC and bring FUN CAMP EXPERIENCES

TALK STORY, LOCAL BOY STYLE with NORM SHOW

It’s a norm of sorts, just local boy kine, “talk story session” with the legendary Norm Chow. And for this session, kicking back, relaxing, and perhaps sitting crossed-legged on the floor is exactly what Coach Chow is looking forward to. On the contrary, no college coaches will be allowed in Norm’s room. “Coach Chow was adamant about making his session only available to local coaches, not college coaches, He wants it to be a very easy going, come to learn, local style effort”, said JW Kenton, founder and owner of the Just Win Camp. The longest camp to be around and the first one ever started on the islands, the Just Win Football Camp continues to bring a high intense, fundamentally sound and positive camp with notable coaches in attendance. This year, Mike Leach – Texas Tech Head Coach, Mike Pettine – NY Jets Defensive Coordinator, Former Ravens linebacker, Mike Smith and Dave Arranda , both from the University of Hawaii have all volunteered to be a part of the experience…(more)

ALL POLY SPORTS PRESS RELEASE:
June 9, 2009
RIVALS.COM and SCOUT.com TO ATTEND ELITE CAMP

In a highly unlikely event, and for the first time in Hawaii, rivals.com and scout.com will make its debut together at the 1st All Poly Sports Inaugural Camp.  History itself shows that these national recruiting services have been competitors for many years anticipating that one is better that another.  However, that will not be the case at the Hawaii All Poly Camp. The Elite camp is scheduled be held on Oahu later this month.

In a growing demand for coverage of high school sports and recruiting news, rivals.com and scout.com are the two dominant Web sites that provide the latest information on upcoming recruits, videos and message boards. Both will offer each All Poly football participant a recruiting database, up-to-the minute interviews, a display of highlight reels and will not cost the athlete anything.

“While rivals.com claims more than 150,000 subscribers; Scout.com says its subscriber base stands at more than 200,000”. Average users on these sites include colleges, coaches, fans and the athlete themselves.

“It is our utmost obligation to give as many Hawaii High school athletes an abundance of exposure that we can give them”, say camp organizers. All camp participants are asked to bring either two games or season highlight films for the national networks.
Rivals.com is the ‘’stickiest” sports Web site around, meaning its visitors stay there the longest. The average user of Rivals.com in December 2005 spent 1 hour, 10 minutes, 34 seconds, according to Nielsen/ Net Ratings. Rivals.com attracted 1.7 million unique users of free content last month, rating it the one of the most popular sports Web site.

Scout.com is an integrated sports publishing company consisting of two separate divisions that work closely together to deliver a unique and highly integrated Internet and print product offering. Scout directly provides more than 2.1 million people with content, while translating 1,100 pieces of content daily, making Scout as the most read independent sports publisher in the country.
“The opportunity for recruiting here is exciting”, that according to a camp spokesperson. “This establishes a protocol that will embark in the forthcoming years for high school athletics. What this does is broaden the avenues of exposure for other high school sports in Hawaii. This is very positive!”

Dana Takahara-Dias Named Wahine B-Ball Coach

Congratulations to Dana Takahara-Dias, who was named the new Wahine basketball coach today.

Former University of Hawai‘i women’s basketball player and assistant Dana Takahara-Dias has been selected as the school’s new head women’s basketball coach, athletics director Jim Donovan announced Thursday at a press conference in the Ed Wong Hospitality Room.

Takahara-Dias, a four-year UH letterwinner from 1984-88, is the program’s seventh head coach since becoming a varsity sport in 1974 and first woman head coach since Patsy Dung (1974-79).

“It is with great pleasure that I announce former Rainbow Wahine Dana Takahara-Dias as our new women’s basketball coach,” Donovan said. “She is a Rainbow Wahine at heart. She began as a walk-on in 1984, earned a scholarship, graduated from UH, and came back as an administrative assistant on former coach Vince Goo’s staff. She later went on to a successful high school coaching career at Moanalua and with Team Aloha and has honed her leadership skills with the City & County of Honolulu. She’s come back to the UH ‘ohana and will be a true role model for the young women of Hawai‘i.”
